I wish I had been diagnosed as a teen. I always felt out of place, never could figure out the social scene. I hung out with socially and mentally inferior students, because I couldn't fit in with the other honors students-- nerds OR preps. My grades were all over the place, and classmates were surprised that I was only in the 13th% of my class at graduation. They thought I was at least in top 10%. I acted smart, spoke smart, and took smart classes, but my intelligence just never seemed to come out in my grades. And I never was able to hold a normal conversation with people (I still can't). But... I am a very good writer. When I got to college, I was able to fit in very well...
There's still hope, my young friend. You're lucky you know what's really wrong with you. I didn't have a clue until my correct diagnosis at 24 years old!

Except for not having friends your age, every other thing you mentioned is quite common at 16.
I'd say that 90% of 16-year-olds feel as if they don't fit in, even the cheerleaders.
As for conversations, is it your meds? If not, is it mania that should be being treated with better meds? If it's a problem for you, you should discuss it with your doctor. Teens bodies change a LOT, and their meds may well need more frequent adjustments than adults or kids.

This is normal. I imagine you are probably trying to hold relationships with people your age but that the other party is not as mature or maybe not as sensitive to life-issues as you are?
If this is the case, it's certainly not a terrible idea to make friends with people who are older. In fact it would probably be good for you in many ways.

alot of teens struggle - whether they have a mental condition or not. if you have a therapist bring it up in your next session - or with the person who medicated you - MD or APRN. being a kid is hard. hell - i'm an adult - not bi-polar and feel the way you do alot of the time too. hang in there - talk to someone you trust! and as for not belonging - i hear that alot. talk talk talk!

all that sounds normal for just being 16~much less being bipolar.
i mean 16 is a tough time, and being bipolar on top of that, well that just makes it that much tougher. don't be too hard on yourself. bipolar is hard enough to live with without you judging yourself too harshly.
and don't listen to everything everyone tells you about bipolar, either. just listen to the professionals and what they say; for the most part they know what they are talking about.

Make sure you talk to a professional about what you are feeling. It's not easy but just know that there are many people like you. Everyone is loved.
