How closely related are Humanism and Satanism?

Very close really. Once you strip away all the trappings and ceremonies of Satanism (black mass, rituals, etc.) it still comes down to worshiping a created thing over the creator. We all worship someone or something, we are made that way. Either we worship the God of the Bible, or something or someone we put in His place.

LaVeyan Satanism (or modern Satanism as it's also called) is atheistic and basically the belief is you're your own god. So in that way it could be similar to secular Humanism because of the atheism aspect.

It is funny how few people understand Satanism. I would call satanism a self indulgent sect, though I don't feel qualified to answer. I only study the religions I disagree with, but you are getting such bad answers I had to chime in.

There is no Satan in Satanism. There are NO gods.

Both are initiated by Satan. Adam an Eve were both deceived into a humanist view, when they were told they would be like GOD. Neither worshiped Satan. Separation from GOD, is Friendship with the devil. Read, "The Screwtape letters," by C.S. Lewis, this book gives you a devils advocate view of spiritual battles for our souls. Satan's goal is to separate us from GOD, by any means necessary.

The difference is most Satanists belong to a hero cult centered around the late Howie Levey (aka Anton LaVey). Satanists idolize this man, who was a pimp, wife beater, and died bankrupt. When confronted with this knowledge, they always make excuses for him, just as a Scientologist might when confronted with unpleasant data on L.Ron Hubbard.
