Well, I don't know if it's legal where you live- different places have different rules. Though I personally don't know what the objection would be to it, other than having other issues with the teacher that haven't been discussed. Teachers have a right to maintain reasonable control over the class, and children talking out of turn can be very disruptive. As corrective actions go, I'd put this one way down on the scale. Sounds more like wahhhhhh to me on the part of the child, who will have more reason to remember the class rules about raising his hand. After all- did anyone NOT have that rule in school?

A teacher can do that but if the parent objects, the teacher will most likely be "encouraged" to choose an alternative punishment.

Nah, that's punitive. The teacher doesn't want to make the effort to communicate, so he resorts to torture. Standing is not considered by many to be a form of torture..... rofl. But no really, what an jerk. Don't let some jerk push your kid around. It's up to the parent sometimes to determine appropriate actions to take with their children. Didn't raise his hand, huh? Big deal. omg teach my kid to be petty and control-happy? I'd flip.

It depends on the state and what kind of relationship the teacher has with the parent of the child.

It is cruel punishment to make a child stand in a corner. if that was one of my teachers i would definitely fire them or reprimand them. A time out such as a lost privilege ( recess) would be better with an explanation.

Yes it's alright. Teachers have to have some form of control Don't worry, mommy's little man won't be permanently scarred by it.

most people would think this better than a spanking... what would you rather your child do, stand in front of the class facing the wall, or get spanked???
