I have a score of 566. My mom has a score of 639, but has been late on couple of payments in the past due to marital issues. So I am not sure what her chances are of helping me.

you will need a cosigner. for some reason education loans are really hard to get with bad credit. your mom's score isn't that bad, try having her co sign.

Find friends of yours who have money and will take a promissory note from you.
You can also try your college directly to see if they work with a lender.
If not you can try Sallie Mae or other lenders who specialize in college lending.
Short of that, you may need to try some kind of collateralized loan against your mom's house or something like that.

The best advice of course is to not do things to get yourself a score of 566. Live within your means if you plan to go to college.

Try some of the lenders that specialize in educational loans. Otherwise, you probably will need a co-signer.

You might have to go to college part time, while holding down a job to pay your college and living expenses.

Good luck.
