Poison Ivy is an allergic skin reaction to the oil of the poison ivy plant, similar to poison oak and poison sumac. The blistery oozy rash is very itchy but will dry and heal after about 10 to 14 days. Shingles is the result of the chicken pox virus. A person has chicken pox, the virus then lies dormant in nerve roots, when something triggers this virus it travels to the nerve endings causing shingles, which is a blistery rash that is only on one side of the body. It can be very painful as nerves are involved, not just the skin. It can be treated with antiviral medications. They are most definitely not the same thing.

An allergic reaction will be dark red and pin point spots, c pox is larger blisters that fill with clear fluid- then end up as scabs, also the first spots will be noticeably large then the rest of the outbreak. C-pox he will have fever and swollen glands. Google contact dermatitis and see if that doesn't match what he has. Try aveeno bath, diaper rash cream won't help dermatitis - it aggravates it. If his rash is crusty and yallow it can be impetigo. You should really take him in and call first to let them know you need a back door in case he is contagious.

If he is eating, playing and (most importantly) does not have a fever, than it is probably not chicken pox.
Also, that is pretty young to get the pox; if memory serves, it normally strikes between the ages of 3 and 8...
If the spots persist for more than a day or two, or if he develops a fever, then you most certainly should take him to a doctor!

Well were you in a place that had poison ivy? If you never went around an area with some lush vegetation you may be right. Also, did you have chickenpox as a child? If you did, it could be shingles. But to be perfectly honest, I think your personal physician would know best. And also, either way, poison ivy or shingles will both go away in a few days or weeks either way. Just sit it out, and do not stress too much, because if it is shingles, stress does not help the healing process. Good luck!

Chicken pox look like little pimples with small white heads, allergies usually look like hives. Could also be a virus or heat rash. Call your Pediatrician for a definite answer.

"sam" if it looks alot like a rash with a water inside also if its in warm areas such as under arms and grown area then most likely it is chicken pox it may also start in the diaper area because it is also kept warm there.
