we have tried Benadryl and Tavist...the vet said it was fleas (found flea feces on his skin??), we treated the pup and the other dogs in the house (who weren't scratching), and still no better. He digs with his back feet and scratches his rib cage, mostly. Does not scratch or lick around his bottom or feet. Any suggestions?

I would suggest treating your whole home for fleas. The flea eggs live in carpet and furniture as well as on pets. The only way to get rid of the pesky fleas is bomb your house.

Fleas feces can also produce allergies and Benadryl can help. But...

Our dog also had some fleas feces....or so the Vet was saying... But our other dogs did not have a thing? After many baths and frontline and all she kept on itching and scratching. We felt so bad!!!

Is your pup also shedding more then usual? Does he have pimples or bumps? Have you noticed irritation like redness on his skin? My dog itched mostly on her side although the majority of her irritation followed by infection was around her upper chest and back. No one seemed to know what she had. Until one day my friend told me about her dog who had had a similar problem. I went to see her Vet.

She had Demodex Mites. Mites were literally crawling under her skin and sores, due to scratching became a breeding ground for mites.
He put our dog on Ivermectin and after 6 months of suffering. She was cured in 30 days!!!

Get a second opinion. It saved our dog. Her named is Shadow and she's also a Boxer.

Could he possibly have an allergy?
We have raised boxers for years. They often do scratch. We always treat them (when they are old enough)with frontline. You may have to also go to the vet supply and get something to treat the yard and house too if you have not already done so. We always treat yard, house and dogs and cat at the same time. We go down to Mitchell's Veterinary supply. They can always recommend something. Good Luck

Make sure u use either Advantage or Frontline. The cheap ones tend to not work to often (because they are not as strong and arent water proof)..It may take a while for the fleas to die off. Give him a bath with either your shampoo or dawn dish soap (not ultra). These will help get rid of any fleas left and not expensive. Also if he continues to itch he maybe allergic to wheat ( my German shepherd is) she used to itch like crazy before I switched her to food without wheat.

do you have frontline on them ? It dont matter how many baths you give them, or if you go to walmart and use them cheap products been there done that and they dont work at all. Also it might have dry skin try giving it a bath in pet conditioner and see if that helps if you are sure it dont have fleas. If that dont work I would call the vet and see what they recommend for you

Change his diet! Grocery store food is notorious for causing all sorts of problems. Get a high quality food made by Precice or Natural Balance. Those companies make foods for dogs with allergy issues.

I'm not sure what your trying to ask tbh but i'd suggest you give her a bath just to make sure they all get washed off of her.

have you considered taking him for a medicated bath? that may help him. what did you treat him with? depending on what your vet recommended, you may need to consult with him/her again to let him know he is continuing to scratch. you may want to ask him if it could be something in his enviroment or his food that may be adding to his scraching problem.

Try giving him another bath. If that doesn't work, maybe try a new vet?
