Ronnie Scotts is the ultimate (everyone has played there), recently refubished, wonderful atmosphere, the best in my opinion, by the Jazz Cafe is also great, hasnt got the history of Ronnie Scotts, but does have a good atmosphere. The last time I went was to listen to Sybil Shepherd......she was good, didnt expect her to be, but she was.

'The crypt' in camberwell has great real jazz. Jazz is on friday's only I think.. but it's cheap, if you go early you can get a table, and the food is nice and cheap also. It's really unpretentious (apart from one or two harmless dickheads schmoozing at the front). Ronnie scotts is good, but it's a bit contrived, and sometimes they're a little up thier own ****. The crypt is on Peckham Rd and is actually in the crypt of the old church. The atmosphere is good and so's the music. :)

Ronnie Scott's is good but expensive. The Jazz Cafe is only good only if you happne to want to see the particular act performing on a particular night. But the menu there is DIRE! Smollensky's on the Stand on a Sunday night is also good, but again it depends on whether or not you are in to the particular act on the night.

Ronnie Scots in Covent Garden is great... but its a tad pricey and only for the enthusiast (people frown when you talk!). Also good is the Jaz Cafe at Piza Express in Covent Garden... very chilled out, ambient lighting, and great food.
