I belive religion started as something to control people and give them something to believe

I belive religion was the first form of governemet that existed on this world to get people under control by saying that if you do wrong some supernatural force will punish you and if you do something good it will compensate you that way they could stop people from doing unethical things.

People also needed an aswer to what happens after you die so religion came up with things such as you go to heaven if you do good and you go to hell if you do wrong.

Now religion was man made and i believe that religion was exagerated the same way as you telling your friend you went out with someone and by the end of the day people are saying you slept with the person, people like to exagerate things and i think that is what happen to many of the stories in the bible.

now this is just my opinion but i dont belive to much in religion and i believe it is false hope correct me if i'm wrong thou.

Yes, Judaism was the first form of a socialist government. The laws are in the Bible to hold leaders accountable and to provide justice for the downtrodden. Before Sinai, slaves were worked constantly while kings and rulers seldom worked. With the advent of the Bible, God told His people that "slaves" would be treated as part of the family. Slaves and work animals would be given a day of rest along with all of God's chosen people.

Before Sinai, if you accidentally took someone's eye out, you could have been killed for the deed. But God told us that removal of the sinner's eye was the maximum punishment. Death for repayment of a lost eye was forbidden. If the incident was an accident, penance and compensation would be much the same as in today's criminal law. Judges were appointed and eye witnesses were required.

I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

(Judaism does not focus on the afterlife. The goal of Judaism is peace on earth and justice for all.)

I have to say you hit the nail right on the head.

But you did leave out the part of it has now turned in to a scam for power and money. There is not much good in religion anymore. It is really more scary then anything else. Some where along the line it has changed to you have to give money to get to heaven and it is being programed in to children before they are able to think for them selfs. Religion is being used to brainwash people in to thinking anything. Like you have to kill non believers to get to heaven and if you kill youself while killing others you will be given 72 virgins. My take on that is the 72 virgins are now going to live in a hellish state because they are now going to be raped over and over and over in the after life. I feel that if they are a virgin maybe they are good people and should not be in hell to start with. The bible has been twisted so bad but people still want to believe in it.

Oh well all we can do is try to make the believers in a god to understand thay are being scamed.

People please do not teach religion to kids.. That should be out lawed.

Your catching on, but not quite. Religion has been around since the dawn of man. Tribes used common beliefs to bond smaller groups into larger ones. People having common ground could relate to one another better. Bringing people into larger groups made it easier to survive. May, be the reson why there is only one known species of man left as well.

And you are entitled to believe what you want, for isn't free will just the greatest thing ever. I will give you this, I believe that those that were in power to understand the signs of God, used religion to control people and yes that it has been abused and misused by governments of all kind throughout history. We we have perfect examples of that in our living history don't we.

Religion is one thing, belief and faith are another, doctrine is man made, understanding and knowledge are from above, only wisdom is possible to discern between them all! And so my friend we all may be surprised to find the truth out! But I think you might have the biggest surprise of all.

"It is a truism that almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so, and will follow it by suppressing opposition, subverting all education to seize early the minds of the young, and by killing, locking up, or driving underground all heretics." [Robert A. Heinlein]

Hardly! The first form of government was a big stick. (Do what I say, or I hit you with my stick) Kind of like some religious leaders today, don't you think?
