Being Pagan, I would try to expose my child to everything Buddhist I could get my hands on. I would also learn everything I could about Buddhism so I could understand my child better. Just because I'm not Buddhist doesn't mean that my child can't be Buddhist.

The only way my child would make me sorely disappointed in how he or she turned out would be if they came to me one day and said, "Mom, I'm a conservative evangelical republican." I would bawl my eyes out and wonder where I went wrong.

As a Buddhist I am interested to seeing the answers to this question. Very original question...

I see that they don't express very much tolerance, I would support my childs choice no matter what their religion. And lamas are not worshipped, they become great teachers. And what is this about Buddhists not writing anything, a scribe followed Buddha around when he spoke and recorded his words in the Dhammapada. How misinformed...

Unfortunately, tibetan buddhism (because it incoporated elements of the existing religions) has given people the wrong idea about buddhism, a misconception that even enlightened tibetan masters will correct (not talking about the religious leaders like the Dalai Lama). Reincarnation is not part of buddhism; rebirth is. Rebirth is VERY VERY different and was a concept that Buddha used to correct the problems that were occurring in hinduism with reincarnation. Ultimately, both aren't true -- just concepts (and only direct experience is real).

I'm buddhist, and just accept it. Enjoy if you want. I was said to be a Buddhist monk... You can believe it, or you can ignore it.

I would take that opportunity to tell all interested parties about the goodness and hope found in Jesus Christ my LORD. I'd ask them to follow her into a life with Christ... that would be the way of the new lama.

I am an unbeliever.

Gosh, I would be very angry at those buddhists who would try to put such ideas into my kid's mind.

I would be very angry. I would do anything for protecting my kid from such perverting concepts.

My kid is a human being, living on a planet also-called "Earth", and that's all.

When he is an adult, he will be free to choose religion or no-religion. But during his childhood & teenage: no way.

if my child was accused of being the great lama, I would try to set them straight but in any event, I would kill my own child to keep him from being taken and worshiped. I would at least save his soul.
