Well first, DO NOT irritate your hand. Let it be alone for a while. Later you can use a) lotion [or vaseline] and if that does not work you can use cold water to get the swelling down.

1. Get a liquid silicon lubricant like ID Millenium. Get some around the ring and wiggle it in a way so that the underside of your ring is coated in lubricant.

2. Get very icy ice-water and soak the finger with the ring on it for a while.

3. Wiggle it up in a circular motion, hopefully all the way off. Keep your hand elevated a bit so the fluids in your hand flow away from your finger, though that step will only help very slightly.

4. If that is not enough, go on a temporary diet. This would be A) reducing your salt to a minimum for five days, B) take over-the-counter diuretic "water pills" for three days that will cause you to pee off excess water. If you are thirsty you should still drink water, however. And C) Do whatever you can do reduce your total calorie intake during that time.

5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 until your ring is off your finger.

Water Pills For Swelling

If the ice water trick, then soap & water doesn't work. Try hand lotion too. If you are still swollen...hold that hand up in the air, above your head. Have you done a lot of walking today?? When your hands are down by your sides, you don't get good circulation in them. After you hold your hand up for as long as you can stand, see if the swelling has gone down enough to get the ring off. If you're not pregnant, you can get a water pill from a local drug store and see if you can eliminate the excess water from your system. If all else fails and your in pain...go to the emergency room. Good luck

Try soaking your hand in ice water. There are also over-the-counter diuretics (water pills) that will cause you to urinate away the excess water in your body-that may reduce the swelling in your hands. If your ring is really hurting you, you might consider getting some tin sniops or wire cutters and cutting the ring off-a jeweler will fix it (and make it larger for you)

Soak your hand in ice water after a couple of minutes swelling should decrease. You might want to use liquid soap to pull the ring off. I had to do this when I was pregnant, my hands swelled really bad. It worked for me.

So, my Fiancee bought me an engagement ring with our budget it was cheap fortunately lol, I put it on, it was tight wokeup oddly at 4 am much like another poster here and my finger was swollen and throbbing, I freaked out and tried desperately to get it off, to no avail it just got worse so my fiancee had the brilliant to use the cat clippers and within a second relief cut through it like a pat of butter so you may wanna try that if not then perhaps the fire department anyway good luck in whatever you do :)

Cut down on the salt intake. It makes u retain water. Also, drinking more water will not help as water retention seems to already be a problem 4 u. Elevate ur hands above ur heart. Water runs to the lowest point, so if ur hands r hanging down, the water will go to ur hands, and they will swell. Same thing with ur feet. Lubricate ur ring and try to work it off ur finger.

First off, I would drink water like crazy to let your body reduce the swelling by itself. If you want the ring off right away, I would use soap, lotion or vaseline on your finger and work the ring off.
