He will not be traumitized for life by it. It happens. I have raised birds for 25 yrs and accidents happen. I am glad you knew how to stop the bleeding. If the bird seems frightened later on nail trims, towel it and make sure you have corn starch or kwik stop close to you to stop the bleeding. The shivering is just from being startled

I'm sorry about your mishap!

There are nerves in Animals toenails, so when you cut them too short, even if you stop the bleedng, the nerve is exposed.

It will heal. But he will probably be uncomfortable for a few days and therefore reluctant to put the foot down.

He will no doubt forgive you once the shock and discomfort have passed.

Mmm, take him to a vet just to be sure. You probably haven't hurt him too bad, but do take him to a vet.

I accidentally hurt my boo real bad once but all was cool. She was still my best bud. I do have to say though that you really don't have to worry about their nails so much that you cut them. Leave her out of her cage and she'll use them like they were meant to be used--and keep them down naturally. Hanging upside down from a brick mantle can grind them down real well and keep 'em happy, if you know what I mean. I wouldn't worry about the beak either....

I'm sorry! I know how you feel. I once trimmed my ferret's nails so short that I snipped a vein that wouldn't stop bleeding and he screeched and flailed around so much.

I quit doing it and to go take him to get it done from then on.

I know how you feel. Many years ago I was trying to trim my husbands mustache... well I can't even say it to this day. What you could do in the meantime, is gently rub his claws each day until he becomes accustom to you touching them without hurting him. Of course that didn't work on my husband, he still won't let me trim his mustache! lol hugs

try powdering his feet with cocaine. This should numb them up and stop the pain.
