Kids have likes and dislikes too and I think forcing a child to eat something they absolutely detest will end up making them hate it for the rest of their lives. My mother used to make me eat peas...I hated the taste of them in my mouth. It was a stupid thing to do because it affected the way I fed my children...I wouldnt give my children peas for that very reason. What you need to do is to be a little more inventive because kids do need to try new things. Maybe make the vegie look pretty on their plate. Make a face with the vegetables on their plate.
I used to make excuses when I was young, would say I needed to go to the toilet and grab a bunch of peas and throw them down the toilet, so I wasnt getting my greens anyway. A child doesnt need as much as an adult in the way of food, and forcing a kid to eat something they dont want to will cause all sorts of dramas, and the money thing, well, wasting a brussel sprout or a flower of broccoli is not going to cause havoc on the budget I wouldnt expect.
Just find a book that will give you alternatives to give your kids the required nutrients...there are plenty of alternative food groups that will give a child what they need to keep them healthy. Kids also like to make choices, they like to feel important too...so maybe what you could do is to include them in your menu plans...say something like....This is what I we have, what do you think I should cook tonight...broccoli, peas, beans, carrots, etc?
Well Brussell sprouts....ewww yuk, I dont know of many adults or children who like them they are squishy horrible tasting vegetables.....lol
Oh, and by the way, when I really and trully had to eat my peas, when I wasnt allowed to go to the toilet, I would squish all my peas into my pototo and eat them like that....it was more palitable than eating them by themselves....sometimes disguising the vegetables in the pototo works well...you can do that with all sorts of vegies because mashed potato is something most kids will eat without a fuss.

I don't make my children eat anything they don't want b/c of money, I make them eat everything b/c that is what I am feeding them, and I don't feed them anything I would not eat. Most of the time I make everything the way they will like to eat it. And if they don't wanna eat what I fix then they can wait until it is time to eat again before getting anything else. They only have to eat what they want, but if they don't want, then they can starve. They will get hungry eventually.

i dont push it down my sons throat but he wont get anything else till the next meal is due. If he doesnt eat what he gets than he cant be so hungry after all. that way he learned to eat what is put on the table or wait till the next meal comes up. if he doesnt eat at supper hell have to wait till dinner. And NO SNACKS in between meals.

I think that the more food kids have a chance to taste the better. If they don't like it then they don't need to eat it. But they should at least taste it.

Me personally, I never make my son eat things he doesn't like, no matter what the cost, I just don't prepare things I know he doesn't eat, But I guess I'm lucky...He LOVES veggies!

No, I never forced my children to eat foods they didn't like. I knew their likes and dislikes and prepared meals that I knew they would eat.

my kids are the finickiest eaters you ever saw.... I require they eat three bites of everything... I believe they must try it to not like it. If they gag on it, of course they don't have to eat it... but they have finish everything else.
