Well, look at it this way. If you were the police would you feel more comfortable going after some stoner who couldn't even aim to try to punch you or some other person who has done some really nasty crimes?
It's easier to go after all of us law abiding citizens for driving funny and other stuff than really get your hands dirty catching the really bad guys. And, bonus, if they catch us they can make us pay lots of money to them in fines and stuff whereas the real criminals are usually broke.

I guess the Police don't necessarily let the public know when and which (violent criminal) person they are attempting to arrest.
Have you ever heard of the pig story, it goes something like this: There was an old man who had a pig that he raised so well. Everyone told him he should take it to the fair which was going to be held in a few months. He agreed and was very proud. However, one night he woke up and found out that his pig was stolen.
Instead of making a big fuss and threatening any person that crossed his way he stayed calm and didn't let a soul know. Then came the day of the fair. He even went there and met up with an old friend. He started talking to him, short-talk you can call it when all of a sudden he asked the old man "So, what happened to that stolen pig of yours?".... the old man smiled.
Do you get it? This story applies to just about everything.
The Police do not waste their time... stupid people (I can point out countless) are the ones that should be held wrong for their - beep - illegal acts. Sorry, swearing is not in my nature.
I don't know where you live, considering Law Enforcement is different in every country. But here - BC Canada - you can actually trust an Officer. And someday I'd like to make them proud for they have taught me - a 16-year-old much more then anyone else.

Well now that one is easy, i would have to say that pot smokers do no harm to anyone, they sit at home get stoned and have a laugh. On the other hand they should go after the violent criminals because they are hurting people and giving the community a bad name and a bad time. People want to live in piece. Pot smokers are just like people that smoke in the streets at home etc, only it is not legalised in most places.

A lot of the violent crimnals I have dealt with were smoking weed - potheads don't all sit around debating Kant and Hegel while listening to symphonies - many of them rob people, burglarize houses and steal cars to support their habit - oh, and they crash their cars into people and other cars because they are too wacked out to drive - by your logic I should not waste my time arresting MOST people who commit crimes, since most of the illegal activities actually don't involve physical contact against others...so why go after embezlers, tax cheats, or con-men?
I can arrest a person for possesion and be back in service within a half hour - not much of a "waste of time" at all...

Pot is usually a gateway drug, and that leads to worse things, such as violent crimes. So police should still go after pot smokers to prevent future violent criminals from developing

Pot smokers are breaking the law. Police take care of the ones breaking the law. Some pot smokers do violent crimes!!!

Pot is illegal, and it comes from cartels of drug dealers, smugglers ,and organized crime. It doesn't just fall into the smoker's hands from the skies, it has traveled a long criminal trail to get there, so while it would be better to cut it off at the supply source, they punish whoever is found with it to try and cut back on the demand. Simple law of economics....supply and demand.

the only reason pot was made illegal was to get rid of the mexicans durring the great depressing. before the depression, america wanted all the cheap labor they could get, ok, now thousands of americans are out of work.... how do we get rid of mexicans? make pot illegal, because it grows on the sides of roads and mexicans love a free high.
now days, i believe the government is making more money off of illegal drugs than they would if they just legalised it and taxed it. lets see, a drug bust for a roach, $350, tax on a $5 joint, maybe a $1 at the most. where's the better profit??? throwing kids in jail, ruining there chances of getting good jobs, and taking all there money. there's the drug war for you. personally, i don't smoke pot, but i'm an advocate for legalizing it. it's just pointless to keep making criminals out of normally good, law abiding citizens.
so mary jane and her husband have two kids, who are both on the honor role. both mary jane and her husband are hard workers and have good jobs. every once and a while, late at night, they like to roll up a spliff and smoke it after the kids go to sleep. criminals? yes
butch and her husband have two kids, who wear torn up cloths because thier parent can't save a dime to buy new clothes because they're alcoholics. butch's husband got fired for showing up drunk to work too many times, and butch never had a job because she was a drunk at home mom. sometimes the kids don't get dinner cause the money dug up from the sofa cussions was spent on a six pack.
criminals? nope
truth is, alcohol is a more dangerous drug than marijuana will ever be. alcohol is addictive, causes more deaths, and more violence.

Who cares about pot smokers, they're usually the ones who don't do anything to get arrested other than smoking - I think they should be worried about the gangstas yo, and the child molesters and murderers. Oh yea, and they should also leave the people alone who drive about 7 miles over the speed limit too!
