Jesus did, and he wants you to do the same:
"sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven" (Mat 19: 21)
"sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven" (Mar 10: 21)
"sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven" (Luk 18: 22)

No, because everything would include my love of charity and desire to serve Jesus.

Yes. I want to. That doesn't me I always do. I tend to want to hold onto the things he asks me to let go of. I seek the things that I know he doesn't want for me. I put my trust in provision of this world, jobs money - those things I refuse to give up are because of my flesh. My own will. Not his. The good thing is... he knows me, he knows whats best for me, and eventually I remember this.

What does the rest of the chapter say, and what did Jesus give up? He had nothing, except his career as a carpenter.

You're really stuck on these verses aren't you? Please read a little more carefully; these were Jesus' instructions either to a particular person or a particular group of people; that is not an instruction to everyone in general.

yes, I am trying to do that now....that is to give up eveything in my life that I may place above God. That is what that verse is about....not selling out items, but gettting rid or our idols....anything we place above God! T.V. Sports, food, money, praise of men, etc.

I FEEL I WOULD.I GAVE UP MY SINFUL NATURE FOR HIM.I WOULD SACRIFICE MY ENTIRE EXISTANCE FOR HIM.I WOULD DIE FOR HIM AS HE DID FOR ME.IF YOU WERE WONDERING ABOUT MONETARY THINGS....YES,BUT IN DIFFERENT WAYS THAN YOU'D THINK.AND NOT IF I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO DO SO BECAUSE HE WOULD NOT WANT TO CREATE TENSION FOR MY LIFE.
WOULD YOU ASKER?
I DO EVERY DAY BY TAKING UP HIS CROSS WITH HIM HERE ON EARTH.GOING THROUGH THESE EARTHLY SITUATIONS WITH THE UNDERSTANDING OF JESUS IS PICKING UP THE CROSS TO CARRY IT WITH HIM.TO HELP HIM CARRY HIS BURDENS OF SINFUL INFLICTIONS AWAY FROM HIS EYES IS GOOD ENOUGH BY NOT BEING A SPOILED TROUBLED SOUL FOR OUR HEAVENLY FATHER TO DEAL WITH.
