It's not hard to believe that someone could love me and change my life. I know several people who love me and help shape my life every day.

What IS hard to believe is that it's a mortal immortal human deity who loves me from a mythological place called heaven and wants my nonexistent "soul" to join him there after I die.

Some people can't (or won't) believe in things they cannot see, feel, or touch. They cannot see God, whereas he never literally peeks down from Heaven and says, "Hi everyone! I'm real." To them, it makes sense that if He existed, He would somehow show Himself.

Now, I'm know what most of the radical Christians are thinking. They're ready to tell all atheists to look at the world around them, at the night sky, at all the stars in the sky, the moon, and the sun. How could all that have come into existence without a supreme creator? Honestly, I have a hard time believing that it could have. I have considered the notion that there is no God, no omnipotent being that created and controls everything in the universe. Sometimes it makes sense, but then I can't understand how everything got here without something to "push it along."

Atheists just accept this, and who knows, maybe they're right. I don't think they are, but you never know.

THAT ISNT HARD TO BELIEVE!!! Its hard to believe that a book, written centuries ago by slaves that believed in spontaneous generation could explain where we came from, why we are here, and why we should not act in a way that is in our nature- when there is PHYSICAL EVIDENCE proving the EXACT OPPOSITE.

BTW- don't give the age-old "its just a theory" when talking about evolution... The only thing separating this from fact is that we weren't there to witness the FIRST "spark" that created life, however this "spark" happens every day, and can be recreated in a lab- when seen, this sounds way more believable than "God willed it, and it was so."

Personally (from an Atheist's point of view at that) I like the idea of Jesus. He was the ultimate scapegoat. Someone who was without sin (ironically from a very prudish standpoint) taking all of the world's sin onto his shoulders... It makes me feel like I don't have to take responsibility for my own actions. :)

Think about the following, if you support open-mindedness: Jesus came, realized his true identity, and then came to teach others about the unconditonal love of god and how everyone can get the same experience he had. But most people -- like today -- did not understand Jesus and his message. Jesus' message of unconditional love and non-duality (no individuality, no separateness) is NOT what people want to ehar. They want a god that supports their ego thought system -- one that supports their indviduality, has a mechanism where people achieve eternal reward through effort, and one where the non-believers and those who 'sin' don't make it. They are like the 'good son' in the prodigal son parable who make god into their own ego image -- completely not understanding the message of unconditional love. When I try to get this across to my wife's extended family, they look back at horror -- they ask me if everyone gets into heaven then why do good? Why should they work so hard? EXACTLY like the good son in the prodigal son parable, they COMPLETELY miss the point. When Oprah Winfrey suggested that a loving god means that there HAS to be more than one way to god, many in her christian audience acted the same way that Islamic fundies would act if told that Islam was not the only way: they reacted in anger and essentially called Oprah a blasphemer.
So ... the question is: will YOU accept Jesus -- the REAL Jesus -- and get rid of the negative image of Jesus that we find in the bible? If you're CONVINCED that what I'm presenting here is wrong (just like people are CONVINCED that Oprah's loving remark is somehow heresy), then why on earth do you expect people to consider your suggestions?

That someone could love us and change our lives is NOT hard to believe. As I and others have stated here, we've seen plenty of people changed by love. Obviously we're referring to the real love humans can have for each other.

The difference is this. I love my 5 children. And the idea that I would send one to hell to suffer for all eternity is beyond comprehension. This perpetual pain would be the punishment for, say, simply not having "faith" in this "loving" person.

I suggest that is the vanity of a barbarous tyrant whose "love" is best avoided..

Because the Jesus story seems just as much a myth as any of the hundreds of other religions that people have invented throughout history.

Ask yourself why you can't believe Allah could love you and change your life. Or Budha, Muhamed, or any god. It comes down to many factors and why do you care so much if others believe like you do? Do you care that others are saved, or do you see anyone who does not believe as an enemy that must convert?

It's easy to believe that someone could love me and change my life. It happened, in fact.

What's hard to believe, of course, is that someone who has been dead for 2000 years could do so. I'm surprised you couldn't figure that out for yourself.

Why is it so hard to believe that the Goddess can do the same? Once you figure out why you can't believe in the Goddess, then you'll understand why others can not believe in your religion.

Maybe because he was, you know, killed. A couple of thousand years ago. Why is that so hard for YOU to understand. D E A D dead.

He may have been a nice fellow. He may have even loved me (not that i'd want him to since he's not related to me. I would find it creepy), but he's dead and long since decayed.
