gosh that is a long time Im in the stages of training my puppy right now lol in fact I posted a question on here about him hiking his leg all the time in the house .

All, im doing is every hour take him out or right after he wakes up from his nap. We have had a couple of accidents of me not paying attention to him when he wakes up .

I am also locking him up at nights I hate to do that since he just came from the pound but I have three cats to and till I can feel comfortable with him and them I lock him and plus accidents at night till he is potty trained.

Some dogs catch on really quick and others it takes a long time. It took my mom and dad almost a year to get their dog fully trained .

Is there something outside that scared him the first time and that is the reason why he wont go out ? I have heard also that male dogs are harder to train then females.

Just keep trying to take him out every hour and you might have to put his nose in it and swat him on the behind with a paper and tell him no and take him right outside . When he does go outside make a real big deal out of it and give him treats when he comes in I am doing that with my puppy and he is so excited to hear Good boy

I'm surprised no one has suggested a visit to the vet to check for a health problem; it's unlikely, but it is possible. I've found the newspaper trick to work well with puppies, but also, when all else fails, I have done the rub the nose in it technique. I know it's not considered a good way, but, sad to say, when I've tried everthing else, it has indeed worked.

When I adopted a mature dog from the pound, I found that she had weak bladder control--not her fault, she'd been through several litters--so I make sure she always has access to the dog door which I bought especially for her. I had to train her to use it, but it has been well worth the effort. (Dog doors come in all sizes and several styles.)

First thing I would do would be to clean all of her previously soiled areas with Natures Miracle to remove any residual smells.

If it is possible, I would walk him every 2 hours for the sole purpose of urination and defication, not for playtime. If he goes outside, praise, praise, praise even a treat.

If that does not work, I would let him scent a newspaper or wee wee pad in the house and bring it outside, it make take several times, before he understands what you want him to do.

If these things don't work, you may have to look toward the option of a trainer, who can possibly make suggestions to you with regard to his potty training issues, and to possibly help you to correct his problem through crate training.

I know this isnt what you want to hear but consistancy. Is he fixed? Is he cocking his leg? If so neutering might help. If he is fixed and STILL doing this (Yes that happens) try a belly band (ebay or make your own) This will help with the problem. Also the doggy dipers worked for one rescue Chinese Crested I fostered he hated getting dirty but he had to wear them inside at all times otherwise he started again. He both peed and pooped indoors. Little dogs are often left to get away with accidents as pups or they go un-noticed, unlike with bigger dogs so it becomes harder to house train them. You wont be suprised to learn that almost all small dogs athat are given up to shelters are not house clean.

in our case with our poms, we actually trained via:

1. They saw that we were going to the bathroom in a particular room and intially would go there to do the deed.
2. we got a doggie door on our 1st pom and taught the dogs to go out the door the moment we would see them do a 'no-no'.

Worked for us.
Our oldest pom though (Now 4 total) is now old enough to forget everything (he is 13+ years old).

Our other male only forgets when the females are in heat.

Also, how & what u feed them has a lot to do with it.
We freefeed them, meaning that they get food & drink whenever they want it. We rarely if ever feed them table scraps though we do let them lick the plates..

Try this trick. Let your dog pee on a piece of newspaper and then take it outside and nail it to the spot where you would like your dog to go. Place the dog on the paper when you take it outside for the first few times. Before long you should be able to remove the paper and the dog should continue to go in that area. Good Luck!

I have a pomerian. So I no all about what your going through. But if you go to Petco they have this stuff its kinda like cat litter but its for dogs. And thats what I use. Just put it in a box or something that they would be able to get in to and pour some of it in there, make sure it covers the bottom of the box. then the next time he uses the bathroom in the house rub his nose in it and spank him and say no no and then go put him in the box. You have to talk to them like its a child. After a couple of times, he will finally get the hint. But if you want him to be potty trained for outside, just next time he uses it in the house rub his nose in it then put him outside. Thats how I got mine potty trained. It will take some time, so you just have to be patient with it. Good luck and hope it works out for you.

some do it while waiting, some need purely a splash of a push to get the cling of it. i grew to become into desperate to get R potty experienced as quickly as he hit 2. regrettably for me that failed miserably, so I purely backed off for some months and then while he began exhibiting indications like placing out his own diaper i attempted back and had fulfillment with rewards. on your daughters case i'd end the diapers chilly turkey. sure she would desire to have injuries or throw a tantrum, yet i think of that's the only thank you to kickstart it. as quickly as she starts making use of the potty use quite a number of compliment and rewards in case you sense like it. sturdy success!
