Mass has some strange rules for auto registration and insurance. You have to get an application from the insurance company before you can get the car registered and your insurance is not in effect until the paperwork is completed and tags are issued at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

If you are moving to Boston, you will need to re-title the car in Mass. You may have to apply for a duplicate title in Texas, and if you are still paying on the vehicle, you will also need a letter from the lien holder allowing the title to be changed!

If you are in Boston to go to school, you can legally keep your car registration in Texas, if that is still your legal residence!

yes im in boston and you do need a title for insurance..and if your caught driving without it in boston its a huge fine and they tow the car and then you have to prove you have it before you can get it back..and the tow fee is not cheap..order a replacement title you may be able to do it online as long as the car is paid off..if it isnt paid off all you need is the bank paperwork..hope this helps

That's two different questions. You ALWAYS need insurance. If you don't have it, you are violating the law by driving your car. For proof of ownership, you need to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in Texas to replace your title. You probably don't need to show the title to get insurance.
