I love my golden, Sunny, but he is a year old now and he looks really lanky and long. His parents were beautiful, nice and strong, with long beautiful coats. But Sunny looks Like a floppy mop. His hair is still relatively short, although he does have some feathering. I feed him natural choice dog food twice a day, my vet said it was better then science diet. He's not sick, he is very healthy, eats and excersises a lot, but he's lanky. The only thing we can think of is that he might be going through an awkward teenager faze. You know, when the teens look real awkard and long.

This is the type of animal I breed and they do stay lanky for a while. Just to make sure he has no worms, Keep up the heart worm treatment and give him around six months. I usually free feed at this age so they get what they want and you do not have to worry about them being hungry. Different critters need more than others.

Our golden also did this lanky phase. He tended to look a little underfed and the vet told us not to worry that he'd fill out. He started filling out nicely at two. He is now three and has a gorgeous feathery coat and broad chest, narrowing in the belly (meaning he's not fat, but I'm not sure the correct vocabulary). Goldens are gorgeous. Love 'em! I'd have six if somebody else would vaccuum everyday for me!

He's still a pup, so don't worry about his lankiness. By the time he is 2 and half, he should fill out nicely and his coat should thicken, especially around his chest.

Just make sure he continues to eat right and gets lots of good exercise!

Dogs do go through a "teenager" phase. When my great dane was around a year old, her legs looked ten times to long for her body, but the rest of her eventually caught up! As long as your vet says Sunny is healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. I mean, if you got him for a pet and not a show dog, you shouldn't care about what he looks like, right?

By all means you are feeding your dog a good premium brand food and I like twice a day feeding as well. Your dog is a larger breed dog and they tend to mature later. If your vet feels he is healthy and free from intestinal parasites (worms), maybe he is just going through a growth spurt. As far as his coat is concerned, I would have him regularly groomed by a professional groomer, if you are not already doing so.

My husky was like that, long lanky leggs, skinny minny body and flat coat. Just recently (2 and half now) she started filling out and getting a fuller coat. Just keep doing what your doing. You are doing everything right, he's just going through a phase. How often do you groom him?

Give him some more time. My golden didn't really get a full coat of hair until he was almost 2 years old. Be sure and brush him.
