This song's for you, Mr. Bojangles, and everyone else who has delighted me in this forum over the last week.

Mr. Bojangles

written by Jerry Jeff Walker
recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker (1968)
also recorded by Bob Dylan
and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on the album "Uncle Charlie" (1970)

I knew a man Bojangles and he danced for you
In worn out shoes;
With silver hair, a ragged shirt, and baggy pants,
The old soft shoe.
He jumped so high, he jumped so high,
Then he'd lightly touch down
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles,
Dance!

I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was
Down and out.
He looked to me to be the eyes of age
As he spoke right out
He talked of life, he talked of life,
He laugh-slapped his leg a step.

He said the name, Bojangles, and he danced a lick
Across the cell.
He grabbed his pants, a better stance, he jumped up high,
He clicked his heels.
He let go a laugh, he let go a laugh,
Shook back his clothes all around.
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles,
Dance!

He danced for those at minstrel shows and county fairs
Throughout the South.
He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him
Had traveled about.
His dog up and died, he up and died,
After 20 years he still grieves.
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles,
Dance!

He said "I dance now at ev'ry chance in honky tonks
For drinks and tips.
But most of the time I spend behind these county bars
'Cause 'I drinks a bit."
He shook his head, and as he shook his head I heard someone ask "Please,
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles,
Dance!"

Hey thanks! :D And thanks for asking the questions you've been asking. They're fresh, not that same boring old stuff. Kinda made my day there.

I haven't heard this song in a while but thanks for posting it. I don't know how it came to be , but when I was a little girl my dad used to play this song for me and have it played at my birthday parties, maybe I liked it a lot, I don't remember. Every time I hear it, though, I remember an especially fond memory of him having it played at pipe organ pizza for my 7th or 8th birthday- it is special because I had so few really happy memories of my childhood- so thanks a lot for the smile today!

for those that would report good clean song lyrics- life is too short and their are too many trials to overcome to just choose to be miserable- smile and enjoy the beauty of this life when you have the opportunity- you never know who you might be blessing even when you dont realize it!

Love it!
I've put up John Lennon's 'Imagine' myself.
Yahoo, let him have his song!
