OMG, I forgot the roast in the oven.... or your sandwich in the toaster...
they key is that whatever it is, it requires an abrupt hanging up.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that your trying not to be rude by just hanging up on them.Im sure youve tried to do the... i gotta let you go thing too.It doesnt work sometimes.... i know.If you can manage to get a word in edgewise heres what you do:While your saying something,hang up the phone right in the middle of whatever your saying.Chances are there gonna call you back.Just dont answer the phone.Most likely they will think there was a problem with the connection or something.Thats what i usually do.It works pretty good and it spares the persons feelings.Good luck with that annoying bastid!!!

I have a friend who has no trouble with this. When she needs to go she just states that and hangs up. She does not wait for a response. She takes total control over the end of the call and there is nothing anyone can do about it. She doesn`t feel the need to make up excuses either...just bye gotta go...click. Works like a charm.

Do what I do. Say I have to go right now something just came up and hang up the phone.

If you have call waiting (when your phone beeps whilst talking) phone yourself from your mobile, and say 'Oh, my phones beeping, there's a call coming through and I'm waiting on an important call', they will hear a beat and know your not lying.

just hang up... or say hey i got to go... or say lets save the rest of this conversation for later so we still have something to talk about... you dont have to be rude at first, but if you tell the person you want to get off the phone and they still dont that is when you can be rude... its ok to be nice to a point... dont cater your life to others expectations... no need to lie like the others say to do... just be yourself

Easy- act like an emergency and tell them you will call them back.
Embarrasing- Tell them you have to use the bathroom and you can't talk cause your body mmakes noises.

Just say you have to go. Make up something. That's what I do all the time. It gets really annoying, doesn't it?
