I have used Picasa, not enough features, also Photosuite Platinum 7, by Roxio. It has a poorly formatted program, and I'm looking for something else which will edit my photos and ready them for using in some digital scrapbooking I enjoy.

Neopaint seems good. Shareware (so you can try it for 30 days) then $50 (or $60 if you want the CD and a printed manual). It seems to have as many useful features as Photoshop or PaintShop Pro.

The Gimp is free and very powerful (see the previous answer) but I found the interface far too quirky. That may be because I cut my teeth on PSP and Photoshop, though. I also can't get along with Fireworks.

Paint Shop Pro is good and not so expensive. You can edit photos, it is not complicated to use, you can save in different formats, reduce file size, crop, apply filters, correct, and more. I most of all like its features and simplicity.

The link below is try before you buy for the latest version of PSP. It is $99 if you decide to buy and don't have a prior version, but this is still several hundred cheaper than Adobe Photoshop and is much simpler to use. I even taught my 5-year-old to use PSP.

IrfanView is a very fast, compact and innovative FREEWARE image viewer/converter

IrfanView is fast and small, with extremely low system resources requirements.
It is trying to be simple for beginners and powerful for professionals.
Supported file formats:

DJVU, ECW, EMF/WMF, EPS, FlashPix (FPX), FSH, G3, GIF, ICO/ICL/EXE/DLL,
IFF/LBM, IMG (GEM), JPG2000, JPG, JPM, KDC, LDF, LWF, MED, MID/RMI, MNG/JNG,
MOV, MP3, MPG, MrSID, NLM/NOL/NGG, OGG, PBM/PGM/PPM, PCX/DCX, PhotoCD, PNG,

The ease of use to resize my peektures is phenomenal. At least TRY it! The price is right & you'll discover in no time how many features are simply no brainers. It should have been included without hesitation from Microsoft with the computer, but I suppose it's appreciated more AFTER using the other, less functional counterparts like Picasa.
Have fun!

I think that Corel's Paint Shop Pro (www.corel.com) or Adobe's Photoshop Elements (www.adobe.com) are your best bets. However, some digital scrapbookers say they like FXFoto. www.fxfoto.com or PhotoMix at www.photomix.com.
