We are going to dress our two dogs up for halloween for a pet costume contest, for a prize in... dog food! We need some good ideas. We have a pit bull and a weenie dog that we were going to dress up. We've already thought of some but were looking for more. Any ideas/themes would be appreciated. I'm not objected to making the costume instead of store bought. Thanks. :)

Normally I'm against stuff like that, but since the prize is for the dogs and not the people, that's pretty cool! :) Ok here are some ideas (though some may not work as you didn't mention the sex of the dogs):
1) Pitbull: Cow
Dachshund: Cowboy
I think considering the size difference that'd look cute!
2) Batman and Robin (or any superhero duo)
3) Pitbull: Hotdog cart <---not sure if you could make something
like this though???
Dachshund: Hotdog
4) Maid Marian & Robin Hood
5) Peter Pan and Tinkerbell
(In 4 & 5 it would look cute if your pit was maid marian/tinkebell. Size contrast for that I think would be adorbale!)

To add: Someone mentioned to dress the pit bull as a real bull, that's a great idea! Then maybe dress the dachsund as a matador!! lol

PetsMart has some hilarious costumes..they have a one peice fire dog outfit(yellow coat, red hat all in one...the weenie dog would be too cute!!!)
For the Pitbull go to Walmart and buy a little girls angel costume...I did that on my Great Dane a few years ago, wings, dress, and halo...it was wild and too funny!! Eeveryone wanted to see the dogs dressed up over my kids!!!

I once had to judge a halloween costume contest for dogs and my pick was a weenie dog dressed up in a hot dog bun.

Last year for the petsmart halloween photo contest, the finalists included a pitbull and a dashund. The dashund actually won, his costume was a hot dog bun and the pitbull was dressed up as a pirate. You can go check out the photos on petsmart.com, click on halloween centeral. hope that helped!

you should dress the pit bull as a real bull and for the weinner dog the obvious answer is a hot dog so that probaly wont be a winner but you could dress it as a log, a caryola caryon, or a pastry (eclaire, cryape, ect.)

i have a weenie dog and i just think the hotdog bun is old. they have some cute ones out like a skunk, dogzilla,and a pig that are very cute on the dachshaud. which i have tired all of them on him. here are some sites to look at for ideas

I gave the prize last year to the dog dressed as a mummy in bandages. I would only attenpt it if your dog is very mellow though.
