Beautiful scenery, encompassing mountains, sea and valleys nearly beside each other.
The most mannerly people you'll ever meet in a month of Sundays. ( On public transport, the Irish say 'thank you' to the driver when they are alighting from the bus. This habit has passed to the many immigrants we have here. )
The Irish play hard but they work hard first. We have the highest rate of home ownership in the EU. How could we pay for this if we were drinking all the time? We balance the two. My third thing is the pure energy that the Irish put into life.
My fourth is the wit and the laugh that you can have here with nothing only imagination. Yesterday, my daughter cooked a rainbow trout. It was inedible. She is the worlds worst cook and Gordon Ramsey would be got dead for the killing of her. But, having cut off the head of the poor fish she stuck it on a fork and preceded to make it into a ventriloquists dummy. This girl is a singer with a range from Johnny Cash to opera. There was the poor fish head looking like it was singing Carmen and then 'Walking the line '. Pity I don't have a camcorder or she'd be signed up for the comedy channel. But she had the imagination in her to do it-not for notice cos I was her only audience-but just for the sheer craic. No drink involved, just pure fun.
My fifth is the understanding that the Irish have of the world. We've been thro the shits, God only knows. Sure, we have problems. Big ones. But, that guy who wrote in about the bars in NYC. Pity he wasn't outside the bars in Boston. Would he have seen Joe Kennedy falling out? I don't think so. He was too busy grooming his son to be President of the United States. And when you ask Irish people where they where when President Kennedy was shot, the majority would not have been in a bar or outside waiting for their parents to come out. But some of them would, like every other nationality. Give us a break!

Well I would assume that the things most people from other countries would associate with our little island are things like: shamrock, leprechans, irish dancing, guiness, green.
What I associate most with our wee country is: great craic, music, literature, a world of beautiful countryside, lively cities, amazing people, a little magical part of the world where anybody can find a warm reception and a hot/cool drink awaiting them oh and of course irish stew on a cold winters night, yummy potato bread, not forgetting guiness, baileys, and all our other fine drinks!

Obviously 'turbothruster' doesn't know much about Ireland or the people there, so i'll ignore that!
I love everything Irish, my kids are Irish, born in St. Munchin's Maternity hospital in Limerick. We lived there for 6 years after that, with my Irish fiance who is from Co. Clare and there is nothing bad to say about the country at all.
