Why is it so insulting to people to think that they came from monkeys?

Do u think humans were always this sophisticated?

I had an experience a few years back when I was doing sexuality education in the community and I was giving a presentation on human sexuality. One of the modules I used to present talked about the biological motivation for humans to have sex. Of course everyone was on board with me when I talked about the human need to reproduce. Where they fell apart was when I said that all mammalian animals have this need, but humans tie reproduction to emotion, etc. Well, I though this group of parents was going to tar and feather me. They stopped listening at "animals." I am a mammal. I came from my mother and she from hers and so on. I guess the connotation of the word animal is beneath most people. I am not insulted by it. But I may be in small minority.

Why would anyone think that we DID come from monkeys? And if we did why are there still monkeys? So....a couple of million years ago there were some monkeys, half said, "this sucks, let's be something else." And the other half said, "no, we like being monkeys." And so the monkeys that wanted to change, became human beings and the other half stayed on as monkeys, this was done so that there could be very smart people, who went and college and everything, who saw the monkeys and knew right then that we must have came from them. And so came the theory of evolution. An unproven theory but still told by smart people, who went to college, so it must be true. And the only question that is left for them to answer is why are there still monkeys around? There is nothing insulting about anything except smart people telling stories that have little if any truth, as if they were telling the truth. As if they knew for sure. Which they do not. And still there are monkeys. And that truth is the basis of the theory, no monkeys, no theory. And that is a fact.

A) We did not come from monkeys. Monkeys, apes, and us came from the same common ancestor. Why is it so difficult for people to get this straight?

B) It's insulting because many religious people feel that if they accept this then they can't accept that there is a god.

C) No, humans were definitely not always this sophisticated. What does this have to do with anything?

First, we did not evolve from Monkeys. We have a common ancestor.

Second, no we were not ever this sophisticated. Look back into recorded history and then as far as can be inferred from the evidence.

Finally, the fundies want to believe that they are special and they are NOT. When one disputes that claim they become very unhappy!

it is not sophistication. i mean, how can you live knowing that your life didnt matter and that this was it. nothing mattered. God has created humans with special abilities and a soul, something not found in monkeys. why dont you spend a day at the zoo looking at the monkeys. i dont think you ever would want to wish to be like them, even if your day is really stressful, because they have no meaning to life, they are nothing, whereas, we do if we have accepted Christ as our Savior

It is not insulting- it is just not true- there is not one shred of evidence that we evolved from another species, as a matter of fact, most historic evidence contradicts humans coming from a less advanced and less intelligent species, whether it be the human race or another animal. We are actually degenerating from a highly intelligent , highly able, MORE sophisticated human race - That is what is insulting nonbelievers and that is what they refuse to accept- despite the mounting evidences. As for evidence that any one species evolved to another - not a shred of evidence exists!

I am finding it highly amusing that atheists and evolutionists waver so much when it comes to the idea that humans evolved from monkeys- it seems it works when it suits them but it does not work when a creationist confronts them with the idea that it is ludicrous! Make up your mind we either did or we didn't!

I guess they don't like the idea of coming from an animal... or that we are animals.

Sophistication is in the eye of the beholder. I don't find it very sophisticated to be the only animals who kill each other for fun, religion, politics and/or money. Animals are, for the most part, better than us on that point.

No proof of that and monkeys are still out there. If we came from monkeys dont you think they would all be human and not exist?

Humans were made human from God so yes, we are "smartest" not sophisticated.

Actually, before Adam sinned he and eve were as sophisticated as it gets because God created them as perfect beings of worship and he created them immortal. It was when sin entered the world that we lost it.
