My 8yr old blue heeler (Australian cattle dog) has been pooping in her sleep. It's not runny or anything. Just well-formed small turds. She's not having any problems during the day, and has normal bm's, but this just started.

I would call your vet and see what think, it sounds to me like she has some muscle issues since she can't hold it in while she sleeps.

Sounds like she needs a trip to the vets and you need a trip to the thrift store to buy her some spare blankets to sleep on. A suprising number of older dogs have this trouble. good luck

As everyone else is saying, I think a call or visit to the vet is your best anwser. If this is a new thing she is doing something has changed for her and it very well could be a medical issue. Good luck.

This needs to be diagnosed by a vet, hon. If she is having difficulty controlling her bowels, this is a symptom to a host of illnesses and diseases. All we can do is guess because we are vets. My Frenchie was doing something very similar to this recently and it was because she had a parasite in the intestines. So, to the vet.

Perhaps some kind of neurological problem. Losing bowel control is pretty serious. Your vet needs to take a look, perhaps take some x-rays of the spine and gastrointestinal tract.

I would def ask your vet asap, sounds like it could be something more serious than just stress.......though I imagine stress could do that too.
