I don't understand it either. It's kind of upsetting to me to see my the tax deductions from my paycheck then see single mothers living off those taxes and then I would love to have children but don't mainly because I can't afford them.

I know this will offend some people but statistically people with less education do have more babies. So I can only guess that they do it because they often don't have anything else to do or they just don't understand the consequences or it could also be something like that one more child would help them qualify for even more government assistance.

Additionally, to those mothers who think that their children won't suffer, you should think again. It has been statistically proven that children born into poverty do not thrive like those born to parents who can support them and/or who have made sacrifices in their own lives to better themselves before they had children. I mean really, how can you expect you child to keep a commitment or make the sacrifices of not partying to go to college if you didn't?

My guess is that they get caught up in the "heat of the moment" and forget/don't care about birth control. Who cares if they keep having children--our government will take care of them, right? Makes me sick.

I know there are plenty of couples who like (and can support) larger families, and that's fine. What I was referring to above are the younger (and sometimes older, too) girls who keep popping them out one after the other, usually by different fathers, then think, "Oh goody, more food stamps and WIC vouchers!" Welfare is a wonderful, wonderful thing (for those who TRULY need it...maybe between jobs, laid off, just to make ends meet for a short time), but those who abuse it make me ill.

I agree with you. The kids are the ones who suffer if their parents really can not afford to support them, at least not without welfare. Every community clinic provides free birthcontrol to poor women and men, so there is no reason for these women to keep having so many babies. What chance do these kids have of growing up having a normal childhood? Not much.

The Government has changed the Welfare laws. After 2 kids they don't get anymore money added to their checks, so the days of women getting more money for every kid they pop out is over. I used to babysit for a broad (I refuse to call her a lady) that had 4 kids and she was on welfare. Her husband lived at the house, but she claimed that they were seperated so she could continue to get money. He had a VERY good job. She went to jail so many time for selling drugs I lost count. She even did a drug deal in front of me when I was just getting ready to leave her house after babysitting for her (I was 14 at the time). I never babysat for her again! She went on the have at least 3 more kids after that. I think they should make women on welfare get the Depo shot every 3 months like clockwork, and if they refuse, cut them off!

I have 2 kids now and honestly I want 5 altogether. I do NOT want to have anymore until I am able to. My fiance and I do just fine now providing for the 2 we have. I want to make sure that I'm able to make it if I ever become single. Once I get my degree which is in the process of happening, I plan on having 1 or 2 more kids. Now I realize that 5 would be a bit much. I wish other women would think before they act. Men leave, men die, **** happens. Make sure you can provide for yourself and NEVER depend on a man.

PLEASE someone find out the answer to this! And why does it seem the women who keep doing this are also poorly educated, do not value education and pass this lack of value on to their children? As a teacher in the inner city, I am sick and tired of students whose mothers keep having babies when they can't support the one(s) they already have, do not have a father in the home and expect the rest of us to help them out because they made poor choices and continue to make poor choices.

To the writers who "resent" this or "think it's no one else's business", think again! We are talking about people who can't support the ones they give birth to. When I have to pay outrageous taxes and am asked to give and give and give to help the poor and needy then IT IS MY BUSINESS! When my child loses a scholarship to another less qualified student because they are from a poor, depressed area and there are 8-9 kids in the family; it is my business. If you can't support them, DON'T have them and expect me to support you and them!!!!

Everyone has their opinion about this question..it could be a number of reasons..I'm not going to say it's this I'm not going to say it's that..I'll say this much..I had my kids because I wanted to and I don't believe in abortions..If you can do what it takes to get them..then you take care of them
