how do u insert the little boxes in a document so people can make a check mark in them?

Try Insert > Symbol and choose your box. (MS Word).

One way of doing it is to check your Font files and select one of those named "Wingding" There you will find a key, on mine it is represented by the small letter "a" on the key board. and it will be a box of the type you are seeking.

No offense here but....YOU can't ...programmers can. If you mean just a box that you're going to print on a piece of paper....look in the character set....there'll be boxes there.
