Neither. I explanied to my sons this way: contractions are exactly like having the flu and having diarreah... without the chills and aches.. or the poop... The stomach cramping that goes with the flu or food poisioning is just like having a baby. I hate to join the 2 in your mind but it is so. the intestines wrap around the uterus, that's why... also, if you are 'late' in delivering, it is said that if you 'work out the intestines' by eating chinese food, taking (yuk) castor oil (makes your intestines work, and you poop everything) your intestinal muscles working will stimulate the uturus into contractions.... (the castor oil worked for my 12 day late baby to get a move on!!!)

A tightening feeling (extremely hard) that pushes down. It can make your hips and ooh my region ache. And it gives you the feeling you have to pee. Normally many of those will make your water break. You will also feel like you are having really bad cramps during the contractions. If you time these and they are 5 minutes or less apart call the doctor and get to the hospital now.

Now saying all that, everybody feels them differently. With my second child they were in the back my whole delivery.

The pain felt during childbirth (contractions) is unbelievably painful that I couldn't even describe it to you. But to give you an idea, it's the closest to death you can get. Death at the time seems a really good idea.
So be thankful for women, we are the strongest sex and we can put up with so much more than men.
To think some of us do it more than once!!!
Give birth, that is!!

The pain is almost indescribable. Some like to compare it to the pain of a kidney stone, but I've experienced both, and I think they're very different. A contraction is the most intense pain I've ever felt--a relentess, twisting squeeze that starts from the center of your being and radiates outward, robbing one of rational thought as well as breath.

In the beginning it is like getting a muscle spasm in your calf. But milder, near delivery and once you are dilated they are stronger.

My daughter had no pain, just pressure. She had a daughter that weighed 8 lbs. Be sure do do Lamaze, this will train you in how to breath and what your partner should do.
They are really worth it to get through a good delivery.

Imagine a huge hand on the inside of your abdomen, sqeezing the stuffings out of you. At the same time, add a great big painful cramp to all that pressure. That's sort of what it's like, but it's really indescribable.

Stomach cramps multiplied by a thousand and the pain shoots to your back and down your legs. After a while, you would beg someone to shoot you or give you drugs!

I had an 8lbs. 4oz. baby all natural, because I was against drugs, and I will NEVER do that again.

Good Luck and Take Care.

Its a tightening feeling, really tightening. So tight it causes much pain. Its all in the stomach too. Plus it can hurt your back just like a bad lower back pain.

It felt like a very intense and very long-lasting stomach cramp.
I wanted to die.
F**k that Lamaze sh*t because the only thing it made me do was scream louder!
