We bought our house in foreclosure and it was a pretty good deal for the massive size and the pool, but I can't stand the color of the brick. It's in shades of sand, I guess you'd say. It's really not me. The inside of our house is painted a beautiful gold and brick red. I would like the the bricks outside to be red or reddish also. My house is 3100 square feet. The brick area is 100% in the front and half of two sides. We're going to try to train some English ivy, but I wondered if there might be something I could do about the color of the brick first.

Thank you so much for any suggestions.

Try getting a small section of it sand blasted a method of cleaning bricks ) first. You might like it as it will return it to its original condition. That color brick usually contains some quartz and will sometimes even glisten in sunlight.
If you don't like the color then have it stained or painted but have a professional do it. If it's not prepped properly it will peel and blister eventually. However, all of this can be really pricey . Try the sand blasting and re-point the mortar also. It might really look great and not cost so much. Either way you really should get it done professionally.

A GREAT QUESTION FOR A PAINT DEALER. I HAVE STONE ON MY FRONT BUT BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE TAKEN DOWN AT A LATER TIME I'M JUST PAINTING OVER IT WITH LATEX TO MAKE IT LOOK BETTER FOR NOW. YOU WOULDN'T WANT THAT! I'M SURE AN EXPERT WOULD BE A BETTER SOURCE FOR SOMETHING OF THAT KIND OF INVESTMENT. GOOD LUCK!
