A True Muslim who tries to follow (to his best) the way of Last Prophet Mohammad (May Peace and Blessings of ALLAH Be Upon Him) is self-conscious of GOD 24/7, infact the person is actually worshipping GOD 24/7 everyday when he follows fully (to his best) The Teachings/Way of Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), even when he eats, drinks, walks, sleep, talk, work, and even when he uses the bathroom. But at the very least, a Muslim offers Prayers 5 times a day everyday, so that Muslim concentrates on ALLAH (GOD) for atleast an hour a day. That hour a day, washes away all his sins, and he is thoroughly reminded of Good Characterstics (like Honesty, Righteousness, uprightness, humbleness, charity, Truth, hard-work, respect to elders, love to children, patience, exhalting others for Truth, Faith, Preservance, Patience etc.) and Being Refrained from Bad Characterstics (like lie, cheat, steal, bribery, dishonesty, fornication, killing innocents, snobbish attitude etc.). So, Prayers are like Programming towards Righteous Attitude filtering out the bad habits that person keeps on gaining from the society that a person lives in. For example, if on daily work a person is being offered a bribe, and he may be inclined towards it as well, but when he goes for Prayers and returns from there, he will Know the right thing to do, and will reject that bribe straight-forwardly that he might have taken if Not gone for prayers. So, thats how we incline towards a more Peaceful Society without the rubbish of evilry in it.
Also, while going to Prayers, a person feels contended and happy in his heart, no matter how many difficulties he might be facing in his life, 'coz he knows to leave everything to ALLAH (GOD). its simple, if a person can do sthg abt the problem that he is worrying abt, then just do the solution why worry? but if a person can't do anything abt the same problem, then why worry? 'coz he can't do anything and getting worried won't help either. so he leaves that problem's solution to ALLAH (GOD), and the person is always sure that ALLAH (GOD) won't put burden on him which he can't bear, and ALLAH (GOD) will get him out of the problem, if he keeps faith and be patient, as that problem is just a test of GOD, to see how much faith that person has on ALLAH, and for that person to realize how much is he dependable on ALLAH (GOD).
Even the soul of a person is satisfied, when that person is spiritual for an hour of a day only, as soul's needs are taken care of.
Person starts to think clearly, when he pushes all the stuff out of his mind and Concentrate on ALLAH (GOD), and then when he gets back to work, his mind is relax (instead of on stress), and he can view things all over again and find sthg that was missing originally.
The Truth of reality keeps me in Islam, the soothing effect of Peacefulness of the Religion, the love, harmony, and humanity that it is abt, and the idea of Universal Brotherhood that it promotes. the idea that the Religion is So Perfect, and it can be defended from any angle from the misconceptions and misinformation that keep on pouring everyday. to be tolerant of all beliefs/faiths. u won't believe, but it has a solution to end poverty, and it achieves it through the means of Zakat (alms-giving) for the welfare of the poor. it shows humility and universal brotherhood when we go on Hajj or Umrah (Pilgrimage to Makkah), as we are with the rest of the Muslim brethrens from all over the world, of all colours (black, white, yellow and brown) from kings to beggars standing together and not being able to differentiate b/w them as they are wearing the same 2 pieces of unwoven cloth and both have their heads shaved wearing similar rubber sandals. we Muslims are taught to be patient, tolerant and preservant, when we Fast During the Month of Ramadan, as we refrain ourselves from the normal needs of life for a particular time-being like eating, drinking and with it all kinds of bad habbits mentioned above (even addictive things such as smoking).
Islam is a Complete and a Perfect way of Life, and if followed properly, we will be living in an Ideal Peaceful Society. Peace to All.

Edit relating to *Peace Lover* : Peace be with u, brother. i just wanted to correct u, that Muslims believe in all Messengers (Peace Be Upon Them) (which amount to 124,000) which were sent to people of all tribes of all times, and out of those only 25 are mentioned by name in The Holy Quran, which we also strongly believe in. But just 'coz Only 25 Messengers (Peace Be Upon Them) are mentioned by names in The Holy Quran, doesn't mean there weren't any besides them. ALLAH mentioned only those that were important for our knowledge, and let the rest remain hidden, which only ALLAH knows of. Peace.

In Islam, God is more intimate with his believers. God is not just some kind of intellectual concept that you think of once a week on a sabbath day. God's there all the time. Thats part of the reason we pray five times a day. I used to be a Catholic, and while I still respect Catholics and hold them in respect amongst other religions, God seems to be more present. He's not a man that lived thousands of years ago. He's there. Your not told so, you know so. Plus Islam has some characteristics that differenciate it from other religions. These act as a form of identity, even if they are not meant to be. It gives you a sense of belonging and purpose.
PLus I'm just all in all happier now.

We, as Muslims trust God to the fullest. Our trust, our love is all for God. How this affects us? Islam is a religion for peace and unity, and a Muslim is the one who has surrendered themself to peace and unity. When we pray or make Dua (could be thanking, asking, praying to God) we feel very peaceful, and sometimes when I pray, I feel like I'm in a trance... It's VERY hard to explain... you just feel very peaceful and relaxed. Like, people stereotype Muslims as very evil beings. but infact we're very peaceful and happy people. Our Holy Divine book is the Qur'an, and it has never been changed. There are many scientists who have studied more than 2 Qur'an's at the same time to find a wrong, but they never have. They say Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, why? Because people don't have any doubts of God. Our Holy book answers any questions or mis-understandings, it really does. So that's what makes us so passionate towards our religion, because there are no gaps, or question marks left in our heads.
In everyday life we pray, 5 times a day, on the month of Ramadan we fast for a month. The poor are cared for in our religion. Our religion is like a puzzle put together without any pieces missing. It's got from science to maths to social life and how to deal with certain dramas. That's why Muslims aren't doubtful, because of these things... When my house burnt down, it's quite recent (I'm still suffering from the shock), I turned to God, and everything seemed to come together, God helped me out in every aspect. Mentally, Socially, Financially, in every way. Muslims also have a very strong bond with religion, they respect it and care for it in every way. That's what draws us towards our religion.
I hope this answers your question!

well, u don't have to see an effect in everyday life. we are the same person as non-muslims. the only difference is that we believe that there is a God that created this world around us and He has sent some prophets to this world to make humans believe in Him. the last of them was Muhammed. we believe in them all. everyday we pray to God five times, we should read Qur'an, the book delivered by Muhammed. a good muslim does not lie, cheat, commit adultery, steal or hurt others. he should not drink alcohols. by following the rules sent by God, a muslim should be a very good person. as a muslim, you are allowed to ask God for anything you wish and be sure you will eventually get it. in the end, a true muslim who has followed the rules is promised a never ending luxury life in heaven. unfortnately, many muslims don't follow the rules and many don't really understand them very well... God bless us all

1st of all the basic things in Islam is:
To believe in one god and all his messengers (25) Jesus, is one of them the last one is Mohammad
to believe in his angels..
to believe in his books ( Holy book of Jewish, Christians and Qura'a )
to believe in the judgment day..
and to believe in fate..

if you believe in those then you are a Muslim.

as a Muslim I find my religion really comfortable for me, and I can live happy without thinking why I'm here and what is the purpose of life..cause Islam answered me...( if you are interested visit the sites below)

I don't have a problem between Jewish and Christians cause I'm already believing in them...since every Muslim must believe in Jewish and Christianity.

I can't believe I'm only a flesh...inside me I feel that there is another life...and there is a soul...and when I pray I feel so good to know that I'm doing something will make me feel peace with my self...

I can't tell every thing cause there is many things...but let's talk about drinking as an example..

The Arab (1st Muslims) were before Islam drink a lot..
in Islam drinking is forbidden...because the god has valued the human and distinguish it from the Animals ( Islam refuse the theory that say the human is a talking Animal ,parrot is talking Animal but not human)..so the god has valued the human by his mind..
When you drink you just separate your body actions from your mind...so you become Animal...and that's an insult for the great gift from the god to you and insult to your body ( in Islam the body is not for you...it's for the god and you don't have to right to harm it..that's why..killing your self or ending the life is forbidden and putting a tattoo is forbidden too..if it's for you...why you can't take it with you after you die...you soul is for you...but not the body)

many more about Islam is provided by the sites...visit them..if you really care...I'm not inviting you to become a Muslim...I'm inviting you to know a new culture.
