I just finished painting my guitar, and residue from the tape is still on the guitar. I can't use WD-40 or paint thinner because I won't be able to put the clear coat opn over them because they are oil based. any ideas would be great.

Try Goo Gone, found at Kmart. It washes off with soap and water. If you are careful, either kerosene or gasoline will work. If something catches fire while you are standing on a ladder, things could get difficult.

Shoot, I was going to say WD-40. It may sound odd, but paint thinner might work. I know, you just painted it. After it cures though?

3m wax and adheasive remover! you can pick it up most auto parts stores and Wally World. As long as the paint's fully cured it shouldn't harm the finish. It's about 6 bucks a can but worth it.
