The top things colleges look for are good grades and SAT/ ACT scores, community service involvements, extra-curricular activities and things that really build strong character- like groups that build a strong community. But those are just the basic things. They also look at your personality, your major, and other things that really offer them a look at who you are.

You might want to look into being a tutor or forming a group that goes and visits people in nursing homes or homeless shelters. Maybe you want to help the SPCA care for rescued animals. In the race of college admissions, they look for the brightest stars with the most promising futures and who will make their school look good. Find something that will make you stand out above the rest. It may take some thinking, but you'll get there. Something that also takes colleges by surprise is when a young kid gets involved in politics. Try volunteering with a candidate's elections campaign that you feel strongly about. Don't forget to check out the issues he or she stands for! Don't be a blind follower!

Remember! Don't try to do everything! When I was doing my research, colleges were actually turned off by kids who were in every club, were officers in many of them, did lots of sports, etc. Pick a few things that you feel strongly about and then stick with them!

Resume.com isn't really the best source for you. Yeah it will give you tips on writing one, but I think you're looking for things you can actaully DO. That site is for people looking for jobs, not getting into college. No offense.

Well, i have to say im not a big fan. No offense, but it reminds me of pajamas, and i wouldnt wear it as a sophmore in high school. But if you really like it, wear it, and pair it with some fun earrings or a bracelet! The ruffles and buttons at the top are very cute. If you are looking for something a bit more grown up, take a good look at the kohls website again. They have some nice "sets" that include accesories, and i really think the solid colored (but not the printed) peasant tops are very cute too. I think that for the first day you need an outfits that says "wow", and i dont think youre getting that vibe from the pink shirt. Now im not saying dont get it, but maybe save it for day 2 or 3. Good luck and have a good year!

Make sure you are on track with a solid college prep course of study and maintain at least a B average. If you want to get into one of the more competitive universities, you will need to maintain a 3.5 or better. Some will take nothing below a 4.0.

Get involved in as many community activities as your studies will allow. Practice for and get a good score on your SAT.

Vary your participation into everything. Drama Club, DECA, and Tennis would be a well rounded resume. Then shoot for honors club addition next year. The more varied your interests, the more rounded everything becomes. DECA gives work experience, but makes it hard to get into other activities as full time school and part time job and how do you find time for anything else. Try to pick up at least one other activity per year. Wish you luck as it will be exhausting to make it through while working.

The very best way, I know for sure is to get involved in your community. Be you help the homeless, or teaching older adults to read. Volunteer at hospitals and or community centers. Be a big brother or sister to a younger child. Also a great ways is to get involved in public schools, which I started doing last week. Public schools always need volunteers.

You will be very suprised how a person involved in thier community to improve it, scores major points with some major universities.

Just remember, never ever over work yourself, to the point where you get exhausted or overwhelmed. Try one or two things at a time. And don't forget a little social life helps tooo!!!!

God Bless!!!!!
