I believe that Religion was started beacause people were scared of dying and needed comfort in knowing that when we die, we don't just die, so they "created" a God and therefore an afterlife.
It's proven that Religious Differences cause problems, ie. Northern Ireland, Iraq, Gaza!
Religion will never be abolished, but I think it should never have started in the first place, people depend and rely on their "faith" to much.

LOL! Oh, my; this is a loaded question. You're sure to get some interesting responses.
The thing is, those who really and truly have sincere religious beliefs are unlikely to be able to simply say "Poof, right, there's no God". In fact, the very idea is liable to make them upset and/or angry.
Many conflicts are centered around religious differences, but I wonder if there's a more fundamental issue: people's inability to respect each others' differences. And unfortunately, I don't know of any decrees that will remedy that.

Communism and Socialism by definition don't allow a belief in any God, yet did that prevent those forms of 'government' from being involved in armed conflicts? No, religion has been used as a reason for armed conflict but there is always a multitude of justifications.
Religion and beliefs are not the reasons for war, just the excuses that some use.

interesting question.!!! my religion believes that (according to prophecy from revelation 18 ) the political powers at some point will turn on organised religion and destroy it. lets be honest religion has had a major hand in warfare down through the ages - the crusades etc but also during major wars like ww2 didnt do any where near enough to promote peace and stop violence .the churches on both sides promised victory because God was on their side. islam is just as bad, whatever is said, it spread so rapidly through military conquest and continues to show violent intolerance of views contrary to its own.however i do believe there is such a thing as good religion ie; true religion. look 4 it.

A bit of both. Religion gives some people comfort and helps them get through life, it gives others a reason to hate and degrade others for their beliefs or choices in life. Getting rid of religions wouldn't solve the problems, people would use something else to justify their hate and prejudice.

You have no idea how close you are to what is actually going to happen.
The bible fortells a time in the future when the world rulers will attack religion trying to get rid of it bringing in a time called the 'great tribulation' and that is when God is going to step in and cleanse the earth (Armegeddon).

intolerance of differences is the main cause of conflicts. and yes, religion plays a major role today in fundamentalism.
the question is: will everyone follow this route? some are very happy with radicalism and would rather die and cause damage than to follow the atheism way of life

It is "religion" I feel that causes issues as so many people are searching for answers and diferent "religions" are different beliefs even though we are all trying to get to one GOD. (Well, I hope all are trying for only the one God!).
So I would have to say it is "religion" that is causing the uproar.
God is our destination and just what it is all about for having "religions". Keep GOD.

renouncing religion isn't as easy as you make it to be. america isn't really a religious country. for other people it is their life. they grew up with religion and trust their god or gods. you wouldn't be able to take it away from them. they have stuck to religion for a reason. it fulfills some people more than others. it also gives some people morals and keeps them from even thinking of horrendous acts. would you have everyone go kill and steal from other people because now it's considered alright to them?

The evil of religious mania should not be confused with the perfection that true followers of a faith that teaches love and peace promotes.
