No. Without the French Navy to blockade in the English, their army could have retreated to the ships and continued terrifying the coastline until reinforcements came. We would have lost.

It's easy to assume that the British were pre-occupied with the French as the greater threat whilst swatting at the American Revolutionaries nehind their back. However, it is notable that the British won nearly all the battles of the Revolutionary War but still gave the place up. I suspect that this would have happened whether they were fighting the French at the time or not. It seems that the British suffered a loss of will to retain the colonies more than anything else.
Still, when the French bankrolled the American Revolution, the sneaky buggers bankrupted themselves.

The only reason the French helped out was b/c they thought that they'd get land in return for their service. The British had overwhelmed their Navy, so the French lent out their services for the Colonies. After the war, we(the Americans) stiffed the French.
We would have lost, had the French not helped out, and/or it would have been alot more difficult for the colonies.
And France still sucks, btw.

It wasn't only the Franch Navy that blockaded America, a huge number of pirates and the like fought agaist the English, but we gave them one hell of a fright.

Hell yes, the French didn't do any thing until we were sure to win, because that is the way that they have always operated. they have never won a war on their own. and my guess is that they never will.s
