we would like to see Penn & Tellar in particular, but we'd like to try a bit of gambling. The tyke is coming regardless but I'd like to know where we can go do with them. I will not leave the child there with a stranger

Most of the casinos do not allow children in the gaming area, they can pass through the casino on the way to their room.
Some shows will allow children at a certain age, I believe new Born's would not be allowed.
Vegas is an adult playground why in the world would you want to go there with a baby?
You certainly can try to bring your new born. I would suggest that you call the hotel you plan to stay at and ask what their policy is, that way you can know for sure.
Good luck to you and have fun

Bringing the child into the gambling part of the casinos is not a great idea. Aside from the fact that she will probably not be allowed, the casinos are quite smokey. What will you do if someone who smokes like a chimney sits down next to you?
As far as the shows, they are typically very loud and have a ton of stuff going on. It's $75 for a Penn & Teller ticket - if I paid that, I wouldn't want to get stuck to an infant.
As far as leaving the child with a stranger, your best bet will be to either find someone to take care of him back home or to hire a sitter once you arrive. Do some phone interviews and ask your hotel for a recommendation. These are licensed and bonded agencies and the risk of something happening to your kid is negligible. Otherwise, be prepared to not be able to do all the things that you want to or to have one parents in the room with the child at all times.
Vegas *can* be acceptable for families, but it's kinda hard for one with an infant. Sorry!

Las Vegas is NOT a place for an infant.
Children are allowed to walk through casinos, staying on designated carpeted areas but cannot stand/sit around in a casino (that is a State gaming law) As for the shows, most do not allow children under 5. (Children can be disruptive or become restless;also some material is not suitable for children)I understand your concern about leaving the child with a stranger, so why not consider bringing along a family member who can assist in the care of your newborn. That way you can enjoy your trip without restrictions.

I wouldn't take a baby into a casino, as a vegas local I can tell you that 99% of casinos are very smoky, Nevada has no public smoking bans. As far as the legality of it, you can have kids in a casino, but the cannot be standing near the machines or the tables, one of you could play while the other one hold the baby, however I think it would be unwise the allow the baby to breathe in that kind of air. As far as shows, some shows will let you have a baby, however, be warned that the management, at their discression has the right to force you to leave if they feel that your baby is making too much noise and is becoming a distraction, also you may get some rude comments from your fellow patrons. Also many of these shows use strobe light, pyrotechnics, and louds sounds that may upset your baby. As far as shows that you could definitely take a kid to, anything free is a definite, for example the Circus acts at circus circus, the Masquarade show in the sky at the Rio, the dancing fountains at the Bellagio, and the various animatronics and Cesar's Palace. Hope you have a great time, feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions

Leave the newborn at home. You cannot gamble with a child in your lap or on the seat next to you in their carrier at the slots or gaming tables. It would be better for you and everyone if you do not take the new born with you to Las Vagas. Vegas is for adults and people should stop taking kids with them! It's a very crowded place, both walking the strip and in the casinos and taking a stroller just gets in everyone's way. I don't think you can take an infant to Penn & Teller but the smart thing to do would be to call and ask ...

I lived there for 7 years and I am moving back. Why would you take a newborn there. That is not very smart. There are so many places to go see without a newborn. You cannot take your child into a casino only to the restaurant. Some of the shows will not allow them in either. Newborns could have trouble because of the noise level is so loud that it can and has caused damage to ear drums for infants. You might really want to reconsider taking him/her. If they were 5 or 6 or so maybe, but it is just not a place for babies.
Sorry...
God Bless

What about staying in Circus Circus casino. It is a child friendly place with plenty of kids stuff and a kids casino. Im not sure about taking the tyke gambling with you both but one could entertain at the kids casino with the circus acts and then you could swap. You could pretty much see all the circus acts from your gambling table anyway its all under the one roof. The Penn and Tellar shows are on at another Hotel, and are booked well in advance, we tried for tickets but lucked out. Also try the two last minute ticket booths on the strip, they are very good and have most shows (except Penn andTellar).

Newborn? I assume your baby cries like other children. This would be unacceptable in a showroom anywheres. Newborns do not belong in Casinos. That said, yes, if you don't get arrested for child cruelty, they will let you in the Casino. Not at the game tables or slots. I would advise you to take this step seriously.
Let you child grow up a little, wait till he/she is 7 or 8 and then he/she will enjoy Circus Circus, the games and other attractions in Vegas. It still will be difficult for you to enjoy yourselves but by then you can enjoy being a family.
Just for the record. MOST parents enjoy the excitement of a new child and are challanged to provide the best for them. And that does not include taking the child to "sin city".

I live in Vegas, kids go everywhere (I'm 14 and have lived here since I was 2)! Casinos won't say anything as long as you aren't gambling with them on your lap. They can't be within like 5 feet of the slot machines, but if you're walking through they don't say anything. If he was a little older, I'd say the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus, but thats not great for a baby.

How about leaving the child HOME with someone - grandparents or something?
Children really shouldn't be allowed in Las Vegas, period. The end. Especially not an infant. Not to mention, if I was sitting near you at a show and you had a crying infant, I'd be pretty p*ssed off.
