have such joy in them even when they go through bad things in their life? Do you ever wonder how someone can say with such certainty that there is a God and that person has seen evidence of them in their own life? What do you think about it?

no, because I understand why they do.

what I do wonder is why so many people, so often think that others are unable to have such feelings and sense of God, without it being through jesus.

because the fact is, that such security and knowlege of god's existance, CAN occur, without jesus. and I'm speaking from personal experience.

I have just as much joy... without the belief. To assume that another doesn't is rather arrogant.

I never said there wasn't a God. I merely stated I don't believe in any of the images of said "God" that are out there.

I don't think about it till I see questions like this. I have seen people leave one religion and go to Paganism and lead happy, fulfilled lives. Your religion is not the only one that has done good for people.

Consider this: As a non-believer, whenever I go through something bad in life, I realize that there is no god, demon, spirit, or whatever out to get me. Indeed, I take comfort in the fact that the cosmos has nothing for nor against my existence. Therefore, I accept whatever bad in my life for what it is. I'm never stuck in a rut, asking why something happened. I accept, I cope, I move on. During all of it, I remain at peace with myself. My life has been much, much happier since I freed my mind from the shackles of religion.

I have seen no evidence of this phenomenon whatsoever. I have actually personally found that the Christians I know well are ill-prepared to handle catastrophe; they are more apt to question why and dwell on what they must have done to deserve all of this than to accept the inevitable. My atheist sister and I dealt with our mother's death much better than my Christian sister, who could not believe Jesus would do this to her -- as though he killed my mom just to upset my sister!

People can say all sorts of things with certainty. It does not make those things *fact*, neither for the speaker nor the listener.

The idea that everyone finds happiness when they accept Jesus is only a Myth. I've seen enough times for myself that God does nothing for people when they need help the most. That's because god is not there.

The idea that people can see evidence of god in their lives is a normal psychological phenomenon where if a person is in an extreamly stresful situation, if they pray to go and come out of it, then they will natrually atribute their survival to god.

Such optimism is not Christian specific. They just claim every good thing that happens in their life as deriving from god and every bad thing as a mysery in god's plan.

Not really. The Christians I've ever known are just as depressed as anyone else.

In reality, some of the happiest people I've ever met are the ones that don't really think about religion at all.

My major wonder about my ex mother in law who is a very devout christian is why she was so terrified about death. Truthfully, I have known people of all belief systems that have that inner joy. When you are aware of you place in the Cosmos that joy is open to you.

I am not a christian and I have joy in my life too, and my life is as hard as the next guy's.

So, it makes no difference to me to whom a christian gives credit.

I think they have the same psychological response to trauma as do any other human being. The effect of which you speak is hardly confined to Christians. Muslims get it, Atheists get it, Buddhists get it. And there are some Christians who can't get through the bad things in life and kill themselves, just like any other group.

In short, I think it's pretty meaningless.
