depends on the prescription. drugs like valium, xanax, can be transferred once per written prescription from the doctor. for example : you take a prescription to pharmacy "a" to have it filled
for a 30 day supply with 3 refills, when the 30 day supply runs out you can transfer the prescription to pharmacy "b" but you will have to stay with that pharmacy (even though it maybe a chain store) till you get another prescription
from the health care provider.

In the case of most chain stores they will call and get the prescription by phone and have it faxed so you can get it at the one convenient to you.
