According to Wikipedia we do still do this in the United States in schools? I was sort of shocked by this but on the Wikipedia article about it, it says they still do in many schools. I thought it may have been a vandel on Wikipedia, but I checked the history and indeed it has not changed on the article. It says in the article it happens in private schools alot, but it never mentions it's fully banend in public schools.
Here is the link to it on Wikipedia if you want to see for yourself:

I thought it had been banned across the country but apprantly not?

Apprantly it's also legal in Canada. I had always thought it was banned in North America.

I know schools in Texas paddle and certain school districts in Tennesee paddle as well. But of the 50 states 23 still usel some sort of corporal punishment.
I was certain however that canada bannned this several years ago.

Over half of all US states have banned the practice. It is still legal in some states, but within those states, each individual school district can make their own decision, so some choose not to practice it. Even in ones that do, I think it tends to be the VERY last resort and is very rarely used. Also, they can't do it without parental permission, so anyone who doesn't want their child paddled can write a letter to the school with the request.

No, it's not banned. A lot of the small town schools still do it. Some schools get written permission from the parents of if the child can be spanked by hand, spanked by paddle, and the permission slip is kept in the kid's file. And some schools still do it with out the permission slip. But it not only happens in only small town schools. And not only in private schools. The public school I went to still does it. Even in high school

As scary as it sounds, yes, it can still be used in schools. In public schools, it may not be banned but it is seriously frowned upon and odds are that if a teacher or administrator were to use corporal punishment, he or she would be sued by the parent.

It may be legal--but I don't know of any school that actually does it. I'm a teacher in San Antonio,Tx and I have never heard of a case of corporal punishment. Although I understand it is legal. No one does it though.

I do not believe it is legal in NC. I remember when it was not only legal, it was encouraged (especially on me).

They shouldn't. It's supposed to be illegal. A teacher has no right to physically or emotionally harm a student intentionally.
