What makes a great wedding cake is unique design and heavenly flavor by a talented professional. Every bride wants to wow her guests with the wedding cake! A wedding cake should have those elements so that it leaves a lasting impression on those who were lucky to eat it! My favorite Icing: Rolled Fondant Cake flavor: Amaretto. Cake Filling: Chocolate Ganache/ Hazelnut
** I prefer nutty, creamy, chocolate flavors over tart, fruity flavors.
Because taste and preference is personal, it would be a great idea to incorporate varying flavors into the separate layers of the cake.

The very best wedding cake is the one the bride and groom love. It is THEIR wedding. I think too many couples put too much emphasis on what everyone else wants and thinks. If you like traditional with a bride and groom on top that's what you should have. If you want a chocolate covered cheesecake with strawberry filling and a bow on top that should be your choice.

We could all list our favorites for days and no one would ever agree. But aren't we glad there are so many choices?

If you're truly concerned about keeping everyone happy I have this suggestion.... In addition to the wedding cake order "sweet" tables that have every dessert imaginable. That way everyone can have one of their favorites.

All that said... My favorite would be strawberry cheesecake with a frosting to match the colors chosen for the wedding. Short of that it would be assorted flavors in the layers (chocolate, yellow, white, etc.) and a strawberry filling and traditional white buttercream frosting. Most people love buttercream frosting.

Well, icing and flavors are completely individual decisions, but what makes a great wedding cake is one that is moist, and tastes good. It can be as pretty as a picture, but if it tastes like sawdust with crisco icing, then it's no good. For example, I would totally go with either chocolate or carrot cake, and my daughter would want straight white cake, with maybe some buttercream filling.

At my wedding reception, I am going to get a triple or quadruple beautiful white cake keeper custom-made. It will hold 3-4 different cakes. I like the idea of having a different flavor/cake for each layer, but I do not want my guests to have to wait for other people to eat the top layer, to get to the cake/flavor that they may want. I want everyone to get their choice of cake, and to be served at the same time.

I have been to many weddings where the cake was awful. No flavor, the icing tasted like it had no sugar in it. Have a cake maker make a cake for you. Someone who makes them at their house. They are the ones that taste the best. I'd say white on white.

Honestly, it's what your and your fiance's favorite kinds of cakes and icings are. But I'd say the best would be a white cake with white frosting. Most of your guests will be able to eat white cake with white frosting. Just make sure it's not too sweet.

Canadian tradition used to be a fruitcake covered with almond icing for the top cake only...then the cake of your choice for the rest which you would share with your guests. The Fruitcake would then be frozen and you can take it out and enjoy it on your first anniversay or your 5th... Fruitcake lasts a long time... maybe on your 10th...
For the bottom layers, some have delicate cheese cakes and they are delicious!

Don't feel that you have to go with a bakery for your wedding cake. I would really like to recommend my wedding cake maker, Laura Farell (I just got married this past September). Laura works out of her home and will make any cake design you want. Her rates are reasonable, her cakes are beautiful AND *delicious* (that was very important to me). Most importantly, she was WONDERFUL to work with. She made the cake process a pleasure. During the stress of planning a wedding, it really made a difference for me. Also, she is very conscientious and reliable. I just can't say enough about her or recommend her hightly enough. We are planning to have her make an anniversary cake for us for our first year anniversary, too. You can reach Laura at: 510-390-2800. LOVED my wedding cake!

Oooh, my aunt had one with a chocolate mocha filling, and the outside was the pure white frosting with bloodred roses as decoration.
It looks beautiful, and really surprises the geusts when they bite into it. It's delicious and really great.
