gotta size up the total picture...
can your home handle a dog .. sometimes they are too small. sometimes the landlord won't let you. Do they like animals .. many don't. Also many don't like animals in the house.
And dogs are much responsiblity. Your 'rents will end up footing the bill. Even a free dog will burn up $100 to $200 in vet bills in the first year. And I almost forgot, they are expensive to feed. And they will have to have their share in the care and feeding. And dogs should not be considered disposable. Once you get one, you and your family are in for the log haul. Not as serious as a child, but many of the same overtones.
read up on exactly what you will have to do with the dog.
I admit .. I loved our dog .. but my mom ended up taking are of it most of the time. We were gone a lot at school things.
so there are many practicle reasons NOT to have a dog. I want one, but it would not be a good idea now. I do not feel I can care for it properly.
With the above in mind ..
if it looks like CAN have a dog and still want one .. you can attempt to wheedle an answer Anytimes you see a cute dog .. say "how cute' .. and try to give reasonable answers why a dog would be good for the family and how you would help take care of it.
Pls don't try and get a dog to bug the poo out of your 'rents. Be kind. esp to the dog, if not yourself and them.

DO EVERY chore they tell you to do ....if you can not take care of THAT responsiblity, then you have NO business having a dog.
Once the Puppy "phase" is over, the dog still needs to be taken care of.....
If your parents can see you do ALL the chores without complaining , blowing it off or coming up with excuses of for NOT doing it...then MAYBE they may bend ....but the first time you screw up..their answer will be NO and it should be.
Just remember, all the chores are like feeding the puppy and cleaning up the poop and potty

The best way would have to be to show that you kids are responsible. Do dog research on the internet and tell them the pros, never the cons. Tel them you would like to rescue one from the shelter. I did all of that and it worked. Last but not least save up your money!

Ask them to let you volunteer at an animal shelter, like the SPCA. This will show them that you are committed to animals, while at the same time learning how to properly care for them. It's just a great way to show them that you are responsible.

Prove you are responsible by helping out by doing something to do about dogs (like walking dogs, babysitting dogs, and helping out at shelters if you are old enough...), read all about them, and don't call them rents....

all depends. How tidy are you and will you be able train and walk the dog? Also;are you willing to feed and clean up after him?
