try getting some flavored bottled water. They taste great and some of them are even vitamin fortified.

My boyfriend had the same problem and he needed to stop drinking soda when he was trying to lose weight. So he started drinking carbonated flavored water. You get the same effect as soda, but it's actually water and doesn't have such negative effects. My grocery store carries flavors like wild cherry, tropical fruit, lemon lime. The great thing, too is that usually they come in 32 oz bottles so he can feel like he actually is drinking a whole bunch of the bad stuff.
Maybe you could make a deal with him. Tell him that you really care about him and that drinking pop is really bad for you and you don't want to see him "deteriorate" (or something like that). If he agrees to give drinking some carbonated water instead of coke a try that you will too. Maybe if he drinks carbonated water all week he can have some actual soda on the weekends. I'll bet that he eventually will stop wanting to drink so much coke and pepsi all the time.
Good luck!

If he drank water instead would he gain nutritive value?
"Pop causes bone loss" is baloney. That has no basis in fact.
Why does that habit of his annoy you? i am sure that there are many worse things that he could be doing that you should be thankful that he does not do.
Have you ever considered asking him for a swap where you give up some "terrible" habit that you have in exchange for his drinking whatever you recommend? And exactly what do you recommend? Is it fruit juice at 190 calories per glass, which would make him gain a pound of fat per week? Is it a "sports drink" that has both sugars and salt in the name of health?

I didn't know it caused bone loss. I did know it had no nutritional value. But calm down. Take a big breath. I'm sure you have a few things too that aren't heatlhy. It's only pop. There are a lot worse habits he could be into. Just be thankful for that.

Apart from the fact that it has no nutrive value, POP DOES NOT CAUSE BONE LOSS. This was reported like 6 years ago, and it was only in TEENAGE GIRLS engaged in heavy athletics. NO effect was found on males.
I think you husband doesn't have to worry about bone loss..... ☺

Not only that, but if he drinks it a lot the acid in the pop eats away the stomach lining. 2 a day should be enough, along with juice and milk. Introduce him to juice, like V8 Splash, tropical blend is good. But if all he does drink is pop, that is very unhealthy and poses many threats to him.

Don't buy pop when you shop. Tell him there will be no more soda pop in the house. Buy different kinds of juices (and flavored carbonated waters) and stock your fridge with that. You can slow him down at home but not when he is out on his own. Try all different kinds of juices, he may find one he really likes that will help him cut down but unless he is the one that wants to stop you will be fighting a losing battle. Don't get so bad that it interferes with your marriage~

First: it doesn't cause bone loss.
Second: It does have nutritive value, namely the same as water, which is being liquid.
Third: the only really bad thing about soda is the sugar, so just buy him the sugarfree ones and get over it.

Your husband is a grown up and doesn't need you hounding him about the evils of drinking pop! Leave him alone.

I went from over a 12 pack of pepsi a day to a pitcher of tea a day and am now trying to wean that down. Plus my wife is getting tired of making tea all the time.
