Agreed. I believe we have made God in our image rather than as the Christians say "God made man in his image". We have attributed human emotions and needs to a divine being. We attribute hate, love, jealousy, grudges, etc - - instead of realizing that we are 3rd dimensional creatures who can not possibly comprehend a Divine being of that nature. Instead we crush it down into tiny molds of something we can relate to and feel like privaledged children when we "do good". I think its rather hubris on our part to think we have any influence to anger or please a being with the ability to create our universe and lives.

This is my own insight to this--- God does not NEED to be worshiped. He doesn't need any human life or animal life or alien life in order for Him to be God. He is just that - God. He decided, for some reason, to create things. He wanted us to know that it is He that created us and all else. Knowing that God or a god created me I would naturally want to thank Him and praise Him for my life and my life experiences. He knows that other people made up their own gods and idols to worship because they do not know the true God. He wants the people that know about Him to teach others about Him. Yet we all have free choice in believing what we want to believe. God will deal with us all later. There is a verse in the Holy Bible that says that God Himself said that He is a jealous God. I don't understand this verse. I've always thought jealousy was a sin because when you are jealous of someone else you are coveting them, wanting what they have and you don't. On this verse, I need more help in understanding. A jealous God doesn't make any sense to me right now. But I know, or believe, that God doesn't NEED anything from us. He would want us to praise Him, to worship Him simply because He brought us into existence. I thank my parents every once in while for giving me life, for hugging me and loving me. When I thank God for giving me life and loving me I worship Him because He is God, my parents aren't that all powerful.

Perhaps once you experience the true nature of God, worship is the only reasonable response of a reasonable person.

I do understand that there are a lot of portrayals of God that aren't worth the time of day, let alone worship.

it would be unloving if He did not let us worship Him
He is the best thing in the Universe...
after all anything else would be unworthy of worship

getting to know God forever... well that makes heaven heaven... anything else woud get old real fast... but and infinite good God is inexhaustible wonderful and enjoyable to the end of time

I would not have chosen the word 'need' I think 'desire' is more fitting

"it is no defect of a great fountian if once in a while it overflows' Jonathan Edwards on the creation of the world by the overflow of God, not because of need or want

I think it's more a matter of worship being good for us than needed by God.

why would God in Heaven need to be worshipped? it is because He is worthy of GREAT praise.... it is because He made praise and the people who worship Him... God is perfect ok...everything about Him in perfect. Say you did the greatest deed anyone has done in the world...umm lets say u dragged like 20 elderly woman, 10 cats, 3 newborns, 20 first graders etc etc from a burning building... and nearly died, wouldnt you like someone to notice your efforts? or would u like it when they say things like , " ohhhh heee dragged me too fast too hard" "he hurt my armpits when he picked me up" " HE DIDNT DO A DAMN THING FOR ME!! " etc etc.. of course u want someone to tell you that you did a good thing, and thank you...but God doesnt always get that! isnt that crazy? but who in the first place said God NEEEDS to be worshiped? He is PERFECT!! lol the thing is that WE need to worship and give thanks, because it actually makes US feel better knowing that our all powerful God knows we thank Him and are grateful..there are many ways to worship God...u dont just have to do it at church with everyone else...and u dont have to pray with your hands together with your eyes closed. how is God going to hear u better or take ur word better just because ur on ur knees with ur hands together and ur eyes closed...u can pray to God when your...umm...weeding your garden lol and He'll hear ya just the same... u can worship God saying under your breath, " thank you Jesus" or " thank you Father" ... while you cook something to eat. God doesn't need ur worship, but He does delight in your love and thanks for Him.

The supreme Deity doesn't. The false deities do because thats how man created them when they created man in his own image. Examples of the false deities include Yahweh, Allah, Zeus, and Brahman. The only true Deity is the Great Watchmaker of Deism. The one who created the Universe.

Good question. I don't know. I posted a similar question a few months ago in this section, and I didn't receive a satisfactory answer. I'm a Christian, so I'd like to know.

By our worship of Him we bless Him and he in turn is able to Bless us. A friend once asked me how we could possibly bless God. She had a little dog who had came to her house, it was old and ugly but she loved it and took care of it. I ask her if her little dog (Jeffery) blessed her life. She said yes and then she understood how we could bless God.

"The most ridiculous concept ever perpetrated by H. Sapiens is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of his creations, that he can be persuaded by their prayers, and becomes petulant if he does not receive this flattery. Yet this ridiculous notion, without one real shred of evidence to bolster it, has gone on to found one of the oldest, largest and least productive industries in history."
