It should be 16 for beer & wine, 18 for everything else. Better education and stricter controls for drivers would get at the root of the "problem" instead of just prohibiting consumption. Americans love prohibiting things.
Why is this the "land of the free" again??

nicely fairly a lot anybody is basing their arguments on the actual shown reality that someone is considered a legal man or woman at 18, can marry, vote, flow off to conflict, and yet they ought to attend 3 extra years to order a lager with that meal in a eating position. 20 3 hundred and sixty 5 days olds can not even legally have some champagne at their own wedding ceremony. have a glance on the diverse records global, in accordance to DUIs and different alcohol-appropriate injuries. I mean, the U. S. has the optimal eating age contained in the international, and yet that would not decrease the quantity of inebriated driving incidents. inspite of the reality that the legal purchase age is 21, a majority of adolescents lower than this age devour alcohol, and too lots of them income this in an irresponsible way. it truly is basically because eating is considered through those youngsters as an alluring "forbidden fruit," and a emblem of adulthood. understand that once underage eating does happen, it really is continually in an fairly intense way. human beings tended to gulp alcohol in large parts on those activities at the same time as they could get carry of it.

The US drinking age is the highest in the world, and the USA has some of the worst problems with attitudes about alcohol and binge drinking.
It should be lowered to 18 - 16 or even 14 with meals in restaurants if accompanied by parent or guardian - but there should also be comprehensive alcohol education in schools.

It doesn't matter, everyone I know started drinking at at 15 anyway... Now I know about five people that died of drunk driving.
If kids want to drink, they'll find a way to do it, but maybe if the drinking age was lowered to 18 or something, there wouldn't be such a thrill in "underage drinking". Then once they turn 18 it would be legal, so they wouldn't find it so exciting anymore.

Sorry, Pal. I think 21 is just right for the legal drinking age. It was lowered to 18 when I was younger - lots of accidents, etc.
21 is old enough to know better and to respect the consequences from drinking and driving or other affects of alcohol.

Sorry, but no. A human's frontal lobe is not fully developed till age 20-23 according to research. The frontal lobe helps you make informed decisions. Impulsive behavior is controlled here. Alcolhol affects the frontal lobe too, making it a double whammy for anyone under 21... ok ok, I was able to drink at age 18 (I just turned 48) so I shouldn't be contrary... BUT when us teens drank, we made bad decisions... trust me I know. YOU probably wouldn't , BUT, many would. MY 19 YR OLD BROTHER made a bad choice, drank 2 beers, and drove. Slammed into a bus discharging passangers. Died on the scene.
Yes, some can make responsible choices, but MANY can not.

When I was 18, it was legal to drink, so I started at college. But I also had experimented prior to that. As an adult today, I actually think drinking should be treated similarly to owning firearms and driving a car. I honestly think people should be instructed on the good and bad aspects of drinking, and be required to pass a "test" of some sort. Of course, this is not going to prevent drinking, but perhaps it could save a life or two, particularly when it pertains to drunk driving or possibly turning into an alcoholic and ruining one's own life. I don't think people are fully aware of the implications of irresponsible drinking, be it 18 or 80 years old.

They should lower the drinking age. At 18, you can go to war, so you should be able to drink.

Yeah, yes & yup! In NY it was 18 when I grew up kids were drinking a long time before that! The goddamn federal government should stick to what it can do rather than mandating 21 year drinking ages!!!!!!!1
