What could she possibly be doing to make her dishes have this aftertaste? She does have a cat in the house. I’m assuming she use mothballs to kill the cat odors.

There is a lady among my friends who is always hosting dinner parties. However each and every dish has a mothball aftertaste. We do not want to stop accepting her invitations, but we simply can’t stomach the taste any more…

I have been nominated to gently tell her about this. Help!!!!!

Moth balls are used to keep pests out of your home like bugs and rodents and it will also keep snakes away
I imagine she has them in her cabinets where she keeps her cooking supplies and dishes
and she probably is so used to the smell she does not notice
If you are a close friend tell her in private that you have noticed this taste and wanted to tell her before someone else took it wrong

Does the kitchen area have a "moth ball" smell? My concern would be that the "hostess" is using a pesticle in the kitchen area that is harmful to children and adults. Best scenerio, it could be something as simple as the "dishwashing detergent" used. Worst scenerio, this hostess has mixed up her suger canister, with the "arsenic" container...DO you eat there often? (arrive late and state you've already eaten...) Or, offer to "help" and check out the ingredient containers and/or offer to do the dishes? Or, if you "visit" frequently, "hunt around" in the kitchen, especially under the sink for dangerous chemicals?

don't do it......just avoid eating anything and push it to the side.
someone else will say it, you won't have to.
that is a very powerful smell and she may have them in the same place she stores her food or dishes.
that's a sad situation.....maybe you could ask her where you can get a bag of mothballs and see what she says.....she may give you some and you can see where they are kept or she can tell you where to buy them....then read the label and see what it says about being located near food.
that would sure put me off my feed!!!
Good Luck, this is a touchy one:)))

My best friend's mother uses a ton of moth balls in her house and everything she cooks absorbs the taste of mothballs from the air.My friend has told her mother but she doesn't believe her or tastes it in her food but we do.I would think that this might be toxic after awhile so I would tell her in a nice way.

Just come right out with it! I wouldn't eat there on a bet. She needs to know about this if she doesn't already. There are subtler ways to kill your guests. and the cat also.

YOU DON'T!

Be polite and tell her that everything was delicious. Next time she has to make a dish, offer to help her with it or offer to make it yourself!

Just eat before you go. Tell her you are on a starvation diet.
