Emo is an overused phrase, and whether you are or not is irrelevent.
My view on depression;
Every morning you wake up, and hate yourself for waking up. Theres a deep sinking feeling inside of you, knowing that you have to face the day ahead. You're not comfortable, you're never comfortable. The days float past, meaningless and empty. There doesn't seem to be any motivation, any meaning. Without meaning to, you go one, two, three, four days without washing. You don't intend to, but the days seem to merge into each other, and you lose all grip on the difference.
Time becomes remotly relative, you lose yourself in your own little world. You forget who you "are", and you forget your personality. You become socially withdrawn, not having the time or energy or patience to deal with your friends. They talk about seemingly meaningless things, and you want something. You crave something deeper, some meaning to your existance.
Suicide is always there, a view on a distant horizon. You don't consider it, but its there, nagging at the back of your head, like a childs voice that won't leave you alone.
BUT - thats just my view. The "official" symptoms;
Loss of energy
Thoughts of suicide or death
Difficulty in concentrating or indecisveness
Mood Swings
Extreme irritability
Impulsiveness that results in negative consequences
Loss of interest and pleasure in activities the person used to enjoy
Weight loss or gain
Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day
Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
If youthink you are depressed, go and speak to your doctor. They can help you accordingly, but you have to first speak to them.
Take care.

Signs: Can't get out of bed. Don't wash. Don't answer the phone or door. Don't eat/eat rubbish. Lose contact with friends. Feel worthless, like everything you do is wrong. Have no energy or motivation.
It's really very severe, so feeling low and guilty doesn't necessarily mean you're depressed – it's natural to feel really low sometimes, but very unpleasant! Don't automatically assume it's depression though. See a doctor.

Are you able to get yourself motivated to get going? If you feel like you don't care about what's going on and if that has continued for about 3 weeks, then you may well be depressed. I once had a great therapist who told me the difference between dispair and depression. With depression you don't care and with dispair you care but there is nothing you can do. Get a good therapist or psychologist. Being "emo" can lead to being depressed. Good luck!

When you just feel down all the time, and small things make you sunk on yourself for a long time. When everything seems dark and you just want to vanished. When you don't even care about grooming yourself or take care of your apperance.

listen to the Johnny Cash version of "Hurt" by Nine inch nails. if you identify with the lyrics as much as i do then your either depressed or on the way there. its more than just feeling sad. its like every ounce of happiness has flowed from your veins and left you emotionally empty.
