Please spell right. You may think you are being cute but its hard to figure out your question by using Butt instead of but and so forth.
Now to your question, don't let anyone tell you what to do. Respect is something that comes from within yourself. Don't ever do anything you would be ashamed to get caught doing and that will be respect enough for you.
If you like this young man than walk right up to him and tell him. Ask him out yourself. Break the rules. Go ahead. Its OK.

the belief that girls who ask guys out are desperate is not so valid as it was back in the days afterall some guys may like you but are shy with the belief that you maybe out of his league which is not the issue ; as a rule dont date your friends exes that my friend is desperate vulnerable and pathetic afterall why would you want her leftovers

If you really like him you shouldn't care what the people at your school think, and depending on how old you are, and how good of friends you are with that girl, how long the two of them went out, and why they broke up, it should be fine.

then I guess you are either desperate and possibly lucky because you asked him or you are simply unlucky because you were more worried about what everybody else thinks and were afraid to ask him and he doesn't know you wanted to.
