Check out sonar from cakewalk. it's pro, bt seems to have the smallest learning curve of them all.

I would suggest maybe taking a look at a few packages & going with one that suits you. There are quite a few popular players in this arena... Cubase. Cakewwalk, Fruity loops, Reason. Some easier to use than others & of course it does depend on what Genre of music you want to produce.

Maybe pick up a music magazoine like Computer Music. They can be quite pricey too, as is a good sound card... Good luck
