ok.here's the problem.i like a guy in my new college & he know's that.but whenever i chat with him online,he seems so depressed giving answers like "it's ****,crap, sucks, bitchy, not good" etc. whenever i ask him how he is.there doesn't seem 2 be a day when he doesn't feel good.but at school he can hide it very well under a smile.& he had told me once that he doesn't want to be helped.apparently he's been hurt a lot esp. by his past gf's.

so,my question is how should i act with a guy like this?should i just continue being friends with him & try to help him?or tell him that i like him a.s.a.p.pls explain how i should make my moves...

thanks for all the answers!

p.s.i have known him for only a short period of time...

You need to just be friends with him and nothing more, to tell you the truth. His negativity will only bring you down and you can not make him happy and he can not be a good partner to date until he is happy. You need someone with some confidence and a more positive outlook. Sure, everyone is not always happy, but it will be difficult to date someone who is so depressed. You will not be satisfied and may feel guilty if he adds you to his list of problems in the future. He may become controlling or selfish too, so you do not need to find out. I would not tell him anything about your feelings of more than friendship.

I'm not a professional but am familiar with depression, and this guy clearly is giving off signals. Depressed persons often hide behind their smiles when among others. The fact that this guy is hiding his misery in public, but spilling it online (i.e. not face-to-face) to you causes me concern.

You mention you have not known him long. The best you can do is be his friend. Only if he starts making sounds like he's more depressed than he appears (i.e. talks about suicide), talking with a college counselor would be a good idea.

Just give him some time to get over his ex gf before making your move. But why do you want to be with someone who is so negative?

stay patient as a friend...and dont disturb him much...but keep watchin his moves...
iam sure he would need a person to discuss one day...capitalise that day.....understand him and let him continue to have a good impression...
may be felt all gals are selfish like his ex-galfrnd...
all d best..

Try to find another friend, he seems bitter, even not wanting help.

Just be his friend. He doesn't want to be in any relationship right now.
