I don't know i really have to agree with cg23... Its almost a crime to see this happening. Then people wonder why so many people dont want these jobs. But oh, if there's ever a need for first responders or military and they are either shorthanded or slow to move (post 9/11 - Katrina) people wonder why. As a service member I can say that the pay is pretty low in comparison. I know plenty of people that make more money than I do, doing less. Take the contractors that we see in Iraq all the time. These people make loads more than we do, and most dont have any true purpose. I'd like to mention this: look back at post 9/11. Everyone and their brothers were screaming demanding action, once it happened though, they didn't like it and now that it is in motion they cant stop it. They don't want to own up to their own requests so they blame the military or politicians, despite the fact that many were the same people demanding harsh repercussions immediately after the towers. You can't just turn this kind of thing off and on at your whims. Its not a game you get bored with and just quit. We (service members) were sent places, not because we are warmongers, but because the american people wanted revenge. I'm tired of high-paid actors and sports figures and the like who live their cushy lives protesting the military. They should shut their mouths and just do what they get paid to do. If you get paid the big bucks to sing then do that. Noone cares what you're political views are, thats not why we pay you. I think anyone that crosses that sort of line should have to pay us for subjecting us to their idiocy. I know this is a tangent and long winded and I'm sorry. Yes I think its retarded.

Do all people who play football can be Super Bowl champions? No. Would you pay good money to watch a regular John Doe star in a movie? No.
They are experts in their fields. Everyone of them contributing with something unique. Generals are the superstars of the military and they get paid a lot more than footsoldiers for the same reason that they are the best at what they do. There are ranks in every profession. Chief's of police get better wages than traffic police. General doctors and specialists. The occasional painter and the Leonardo's. If you think about it you will notice that people are paid according to their skills.

nearly 70% of our enlisted men and women live at or below the poverty line here in the USA. and thats even with including the other benefits like medical and housing and such.
But the same can be said for many other occupations that put their lives on the line everyday. Firemen, Police Officers, EMT's.
Just about everyone in a catigory that could be labeled "First Responders" gets paid about that much.
My Brother is a cop and he barely clears about 32,000 or so. with his wife and kids they barely get by. Yet he puts his life on the line every day he goes to work. above and beyond that, Cops are probably the most unappreciated group of all those I have mentioned. vilified even by ordinary citizens on a rant because they couldnt keep their damn foot off the gas.

I do disagree with this but think about it. If soldiers who fought for their country got paid as much as celebrities, we wouldn't have entertainment because everyone would be drawn to the military, even people who run our economy. And you can pay them both a ton of money, there just isn't enough.

Some how you got more than I did when I served. I got out because I saw the imbalance went to school. and made more of my life. A lot of people in the service have no desire to work a 9 to 5. and most will walk aimlessly though there lives happy in the thought of just getting by.

Well, being in the military, I definately see your point. Think of this though....Who pays these pro atheletes and movie stars? We do. We go to those movies and games and pay outrageous ticket prices - and unbelievable prices for flat drinks and stale popcorn!. We buy jerseys and get the shoes that so and so endorses, DVDs, posters, and all that other junk.
We have no one to blame but oursleves. If we don't support it financially, it won't happen.

If people would stop worshiping sports and entertainment, actors and football players wouldn't make so much money. It's all about what people want. Supply and Demand!!

Yes it is quite upsetting i myself have 8 years in the army. But there is a simple explination to this. American citizens pay millions of dollars into the sporting events every year. But you dont see them paying for center line tickets to the WAR.................

Yes, it is upsetting. I guess the difference is that there are plenty of people (you, me, and all the moviestars) who are qualified for the army, but not every soldier can sell movies that make millions. Sad.
