I just recently watched a show about Lake Malawi in Africa, and it was really interesting.. so I looked up some of the facts I learned about it on the net and posted them here. Hope you find this as facinating as I do!

Did you know?....

Lake Malawi's fauna contains more species of fresh-water fish than all of Europe and North America combined.

A lepidophage (LEP-id-o-fayj) is an organism that eats another animal's scales. Lepidophages have evolved independently at least four times among Lake Malawi's cichlids: twice in the mbuna (Melanochromis lepidiadaptes and Genyochromis mento) and twice among the "haps" (Corematodus spp. and Docimodus evelynae). The two Corematodus species are also aggressive mimics of their prey's color patterns.

An aggressive mimic is a predator that appears to be something else to capture prey. Superb examples from Malawi's cichlids: Corematodus shiranus mimics the silvery color and ragged vertical bars of shoaling tilapias; it swims among them and can get close enough to dart in and bite off mouthfuls of scales. Nimbochromis livingstonii, colored like a rotting fish, plays dead and eats small fishes attracted to its "carcass."

Perhaps Lake Malawi’s greatest feature is the life that is carries. Lake Malawi is host to more fish species than any other lake in the world. In fact, the vast majority of the species found in Lake Malawi are totally unique and can’t be found anywhere else. The largest family of fish is the beautifully colored Cichlidae. Other fish families include Usipa (very small thin fish), Mpasa (also known as lake Salmon) and Kampango (similar to Catfish in the States).

Lake Malawi is one of the oldest freshwater lakes in the world--the descendant of a body of water that has been continuously present in the Malawi rift valley for nearly a million years. Because they have had such a long time to evolve and diversify, virtually all of the hundreds of species in Lake Malawi are from the same "flock"--in that they have a common ancestor that arrived there long ago from an inflowing river. Only lakes Baikal and Tanganyika, which also have species flocks, are older. Although its great age partially explains Lake Malawi's rich biodiversity, the question of why there are so many species in a single lake continues to draw scientists from all over the world to this unique resource.

In 1960 John Kennedy and Richard Nixon debated on national TV for the nomination for president of the USA.Nixon was confident and felt he had the nomination.......He learned rather quickly through the debate that he didn't have what it took to engage the American public on TV , and that the television audience watched his every move ...He looked bad, was hesitant in speach and appeared to be unprepared for the debate.

As we know Kennedy won that election and Nixon, even though he was a fine politician ,was haunted throughout his life by that debate.

Take two glasses of water at room temperature and heat one of them to 80 degrees. Put them both in the freezer and providing the glasses don't break first, the glass with the hot water will freeze first.
